Gentailers agree to stockpile coal at Huntly Power Station
- Genesis, Mercury, Meridian and Contact will set up a strategic energy reserve at Huntly Power Station
- Large coal stockpile will cover “dry winter” hydro risk and gas shortage
- Agreement prompted by 2024 electricity supply crunch
- Companies will seek Commerce Commission approval for scheme
This is a grotesquely counter productive move.
It’s artificially expanding Huntly, promoting short term goals over medium term renewable investment while allowing the big four to do sweet fuck all as the planet burns!
Surely the Commerce Commission can’t allow a cartel to rig the market against the long term well being of their consumers?
What is the point of the Commerce Commission if not to ensure Capitalism isn’t an elite monopoly?
Where is the competition for those consumers who give shit about the environment?
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
We might not be low on Gas if a certain politician had not canceled exploration before an adequate alternative had been sorted .
