The Daily Blog Open Mic – 9th August 2025

What if – a group of like-minded committed, active and kindly, decent people with a sense of humour, the sort of people I like, got a thing together with an email/website – separate from a party – and looked at some projects to agree on and carry out together? Sort of a Students Army style of belonging to something real, interesting and worthy, good to do, and pleasing, positive to the mind that will build cohesion ready for the hard times we have now yet we are still deteriorating. Keeping in touch, local things explained to the others in the group, and little groups growing all over the country, coming up like Spring bulbs. Like ‘Rise Now and stop the Rot! No arguments about culture clash, it would be practical and bracing to meet similar good people, like a vaccination against despair, anger or apathy, atrophy halted, before entropy sets in!

I am listening to the Concert program – all those people who have decided they like making sounds together, working to a musical language and specifications on a musical tool (instrument) and devoting much time to it – there’s no sense in it, but it’s a human thing to love this thing called music. What if we could get groups working in society at their own particular thing, and all following a similar method of living and thinking? In music there are many levels of nuance, not just one eg dynamic marks for changes of loudness; piano, forte, crescendo, diminuendo…also there is tempo, pace. If we can apply ourselves to the discipline of making music, learning about our particular instruments, with hours of practice alone and in concert, why couldn’t we apply ourselves to making it our first consideration once finished our daily round and duties. Our new approach would not be the simplistic, louche one of ‘Make Love, Not War’, but **MAKE MUSIC Not Politics – JoyN ToGether For Harmony**. Once we are on the same page, wanting the same thing and work together, much of the money and power desire will vanish; ‘the devil makes work for idle hands [and minds]’ truism will show in its absence.

But philosophy contains a pretentiousness – that we should spend much time trying to understand all the nub of life. If we start from the outcomes we would like and then think, seek honourable, effective ways to get them, we create a life that can be studied and created by ourselves, philosophised about by reason. Much of the old philosophy is of observation and studying our drives and mistakes that harm ourselves.

We need to get doing and regard life as a miracle, and each other as one also. So let’s do it – the philosophy that has been thought and written about has not solved our regular outbreaks of stupidity and cruelty.
