Pacific unemployment has spiked under National, growing to 12.1 percent โ€“ more than double the national average.

โ€œItโ€™s beyond shameful that more of our Pacific communities are losing their jobs because of Christopher Luxonโ€™s choices,โ€ Pacific peoples spokesperson Carmel Sepuloni said.

โ€œAt a time of struggle, Nationalโ€™s $22 million cut to the Tupu Aotearoa Pacific employment programme, which has helped thousands into work, couldnโ€™t have been more out of touch.

โ€œAt the same time the cost of living is only increasing, with food, electricity and housing costs all going up.

โ€œItโ€™s no wonder so many of our Pacific people are considering crossing the ditch, with huge job losses in areas like construction โ€“ a sector where many Pacific people work.

โ€œChristopher Luxon promised to make life better for New Zealanders, instead he is making it harder to get a job and support your family.

โ€œNational is completely out of touch with Pacific communities and itโ€™s so disheartening to see our people being hurt by Christopher Luxonโ€™s choices,โ€ Carmel Sepuloni said.
