New Roy Morgan Poll – Labour + National neck and neck

Latest Roy Morgan Poll is out:

National – 31

Labour – 31

Greens – 11.5

ACT – 10.5

- Sponsor Promotion -

NZF – 9.5

MP – 3.5

Labour and National are neck and neck while ACT and NZF continue to grow the reactionary spite vote.

The nature of social media hate algorithms are polarising debate to the level of sectarianism.

That NZF and ACT are even close to the Greens is a real concern while the two main parties are incapable of gaining a third of the total support.

This is the splintering of the MMP spectrum.

We are seeing in the UK with the creation of Corbyn’s new Left Party and Farage’s Reform UK that these forces are generating new political vehicles.

In NZ the Left are simply too disorganised between cancelling each other and getting hit by the next blitzkrieg of right wing policy to even consider a new political party.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. We well know the problems, but need to to take concrete steps against immense odds. Capital has a lot locked up already and is strong in the ideological struggle, but not undefeatable as the victorious mass action against Acts Tiriti Bill showed.

    -the key requirements…
    • Replace CTU leadership with a left class focused one. Union membership density is low for historic and employment change reasons, but veterans and those who are recruited tend to stay (still in the 300,000s). Short sharp targeted industrial action will affect the ruling class. A general strike takes much organisation and the conditions are not there yet.
    • Build a new national unemployed workers movement including as many community groups and individuals that can be united-Iwi, NGOs, environmental etc.
    • Parliamentary politics-two goals there…1) Fight CoC’s voter suppression with a strong public enrolment and get out the vote campaign
    2) Maximum pressure on NZ Labour to adopt wealth tax and other pro working class policies-and-to support a combined approach with Greens and TPM for 2026 Election.

  2. In the meantime, our gutless PM is hiding over in Papua New Guinea arse licking to one of his so called few friends while his CoC lot are putting the boot into us Maori over the foreshore and seabed. And ding bat Goldsmith is telling more lies by saying Maori will stop NZers from launching their boats when this is all bullshit as we can’t under the current act impede people from going about their normal business and activities. Ding bat Goldy is just scaremongering and playing the racists card to the rednecks and dummies that believe every word that comes out of the CoC mouths. And really the true intentions of this new act will be to get rid of Māori who stand in there way of drill baby drill and anything else to please NZ First sponsors and funders. Unemployment figures out today another reason the gutless baldy is overseas he doesn’t want to face any scrutiny, when that comes with the job.

  4. Hence the reason for the revival of the race hate sea shore bill .One day all the haters will wake up that Maori are keeping the shore open for everyone .As soon as the hate bill is passed large areas of the foreshore will be fenced off by large white land owners and mining companies .Whangarei harbour will be destroyed as a great fishing place because of the large sand mining operation that will start up along the Ruakaka coast .Then there will also be massive dredging of the harbour to allow for Larger ships to come and go .Local Maori had a protest there not so long ago and all the wealthy white holiday home owners at Marsden cove were no where to be seen in their flash boats .When it is all ripped up and ruined those same pakeha will be moaning because the Maoris did not protect the rights to the sea bed and forshore .

    • Absolutely true, GW.

Ti Tiritiri is the only bit of law holding back utter pillage of our nation – some people have no idea how bad it can get.

    • Agree, Chippy will wimp out on tax reform, there will be no wealth tax as David Parker advocated and put a lot of work into. This little will change with Choppy.

    • In the case of the wealth tax, I disagree. Problem with the wealth tax is that as years roll over the tax take diminishes.

If we set the total privately held taxable wealth in year one at a nominal value of say 100 and the tax rate at say 10. Tax take year one is 10
      .
In year two the total privately held taxable wealth will be valued at 90. State tax take still at the 10 rate equals 9.
In year three the total privately held taxable wealth will be valued at 81. State tax take still at the 10 rate equals 8.1

And so on. At some stage there will be no privately held taxable wealth worth taxing (and the cost to set yearly values and collect will be greater than the state wealth tax receipts.

If the Greens want to collect increasing tax revenue on privately held taxable wealth, for ever, they will need to have policies that enables the growth of privately held taxable wealth at greater than the wealth tax rate .

Not to sure that is in the Greens playbook.

  5. If a voter switches from National to Act or NZF the outcome is the Left is kept out of power which pleases me .

  6. Why is this silly Roy Morgan crowd bringing up these dicey polls every month? Is it ‘brainwashing’ or ‘conditioning us’, another huge ‘con’, or simply, ‘BS’? I have gone back from their 4/2/25 poll and they seem to come up with very similar numbers every time for National, so is their ‘data base’ suspect? When you look at the way this CoC is operating it is impossible to believe that there are 31% of unprincipled idiots out there who would still put this deranged CoC back into power unless they want to see NZ disappear up the rear end of another country or again, don’t give a damn!

    • I think they are polling for national .There was a poll out 2 weeks ago which had Labour ,greens TPM in government with a 3 seat lead .It came out the same day as Luxon was swearing about Chippie .It was not published because it was not favourable to the government and the media were scared they would loose further funding .

  7. Labour cannot win under Chippie. That might seem like a hot take, but everyone knows it’s true. Deep down, you know it.

  8. “In NZ the Left are simply too disorganised between cancelling each other and getting hit by the next blitzkrieg of right wing policy to even consider a new political party.” MB

Why do we need a new party?
We have three Left parties already
While the Greens and Te Pati Maori are more Left than Labour.
And labour are more Centrist than Left. But all they need do to beat the Right wing coalition is start working together around some common shared policies and vision.

  9. As they often used to say at Unilever:

    “ Lux on, Lux off “ .

Fun factoid: while at Air New Zealand, Luxon was fondly and endearingly referred to as “Uncle”.

    As in Uncle Fester.

Christgopher “Luxuriant Locks” Luxon is as disposable as his name suggests. For that reason alone, I sense he will not be on the PM ballot come the election showdown next year. He will be rolled for sure – or perhaps stand aside to “spend more time with family”.

As the saying goes, we regularly change our underwear and our governments for the same sensible reasons.
