Paul Henry appointed to TVNZ board

Broadcaster Paul Henry has been appointed to the board of TVNZ.

The announcement was made by Media and Communications Minister Paul Goldsmith this morning.

Henry was a former host of Breakfast and left the network in 2010.

I think Paul, at his heart, is an old school BBC Public Broadcaster.

  1. ‘I think Paul, at his heart, is an old school BBC Public Broadcaster.’
News at me the prick has a heart.
However I have to admit I did not watch him very often. The little I saw gave me the shits.
He is also someone who stood for election as a National Party member and I doubt if his loyalties have changed.

    • Your comment aligns with my views, and I believe TVNZ will only deteriorate further with his involvement.

  2. Expect more right wing shit now that Goldsmith is stacking the board with the likes of a racist bigot like Henry.

  3. I say sell the whole TVNZ operation – if he can find a buyer of course.

Finding a buyer may be the big problem though.

  4. I don’t watch much live anymore. Very occassionally the news. If they had a decent investigative current affairs I might watch, but 7 sharp nah!

I like the English Question Time political show, where members of the public get to question MP’s directly live on current issues, it is something lacking in NZ. General public should have more opportunity to question our ministers, (maybe occassionally mayors), directly on air. We only seem to do it around election time.

A NZ arts show as you suggest sounds good to see more of our local talent. Maybe a NZ inventors or innovators series might be interesting?

I do use the on demand selectively for the occassional series, movie, documentary and some sport, (mostly cricket/athletics when they have it). The on demand mostly works for me to watch as and when I wish.

  5. Ok put token arts and culture on when nobody watches.
Put sport, soaps and game show shit on prime time.

That’s a great way to uphold public charter and nurture knowledge, culture and understanding.

Or is it just more F Boy Island level programming with lashings of xtra current affairs to appease the appetites of certain news freaks,

Makes one suspect that Martyn is already lost in the forest of ratings driven market worshipers.

  6. Paul Henry will do nothing we as viewers and the real owners suggest .Goldsmith has just stroked Henrys ego big time and I can see him thinking he is trump and banning all decent news .John Campbell has already been sidelined by the government and any other decent reporter will be or has already gone .
I can see Dallow being allowed to so his true red neck colours and he will be squealing with joy in anticipation at not speaking Te Reo on the daily white news only bulletin .

  7. At least John Clarke, had houmour our old school ran out off, ans Fred, and his Trev!s, jumped the ditch, only came back personal, nothing else.
This tele commercial, deserter, some time what intelect tele, Paul. like, what is your your choice of washing powder.

  8. The thing about the BBC, is that they used to have professional standards – Paul Henry, not so much.

If he’s going to be in charge I won’t watch it – no great sacrifice given I’ve long since given up on the inanity of broadcast media.

Good luck wringing advertising revenue out of his vacuous crap.

  9. Appointment viewing is utterly dead at this point in lieu of internet streaming services (e.g. YouTube and Netflix). No one under the age of 80 watches anything limited by a specific time. The only audience for TVNZ (and legacy media generally) at this point is retirement home common rooms or dentist waiting rooms which is just to have something on that no-one is really watching on purpose.

  10. Wasn’t Paul Henry a Once Wannabe National MP about 2017?
If he does do anything can he please get rid of the Breakfast ‘news’ because it comes across as very Arse-Licking and Sycophantic of Luxon and National.
It lacks any Intellectual Content Whatsoever in its Incapabilities of Asking Really Good and Indepth/Researched Questions. Instead it Meanders around like a Picnic Lunch of Not Knowing how to ask Questions.
I mean we ALL Don’t Want to Know what Luxon had for lunch or dinner whilst on one of his taxpayer funded overseas junkets whilst NZ kids in lower socio economic regions of NZ are having to contend with a David Seymour Lunch of Un-edible contents.
I am getting the impression when it comes to TVNZ it’s a matter of ‘Lights On but Nobody Home’ because it lacks the ability to ask the Truly Hard Questions to Luxon, Bishop, Brown, Seymour etc.etc.etc. All Luxon etc resorts to is the Usual and Expected Waffling and Word Salads that have become Tiresome and Pathetic on the part of Luxon etc.
I hold no trust nor any feeling of the credibility of TVNZ and whilst former Wannabe National MP Paul Henry has been given yet another Cushy job he may as well be Yet Another Trougher Milking a System For All He can Get Whilst Delivering Sweet F*ck All in a Better Standard of Television and Presenting.
