The hilarious double standards of the National Directive to stop investigating retail crime under $500

Police Commissioner on controversial shoplifting directive

The Police Commissioner says a controversial directive sent to staff about not investigating retail crime below certain thresholds gave people the impress police were “giving license to those who choose to break the law”.

He’s since canned the directive which he labelled “confusing and unhelpful”.

RNZ revealed last week a directive was recently sent to staff relating to police’s File Management Centre (FMC) titled ‘Assignment Changes – Theft and Fraud’.

The directive said that from 26 March the FMC was applying “nationally standardised value thresholds” when assessing theft and fraud files. The value thresholds are – general theft $200, petrol drive off $150, shoplifting $500, fraud (paywave, online, scam etc) $1000, and all other fraud $500.

“When assessing files with these offences, you will apply the relevant value threshold and file any file under that threshold regardless of any lines of enquiry or IFA score.”

The police instructions relating to Case Management define an IFA score as “a numeric value derived from a series of weighted factors which gives an indication of the solvability of the case, based on the presence or absence of certain key lines of enquiry”.

On Tuesday, Police Commissioner Richard Chambers held a media conference in Auckland following significant backlash regarding the directive.

He told media that on his first day as the commissioner he made “very clear” his expectations around retail crime and the role of the police and law enforcement.

…blah blah blah.

Here’s what I love about this – the juicy double standards.

When Police announced they were no longer noticing about mental health call outs to vulnerable people, there was muted response, yet when they announce they won’t be wasting time with petty theft, the end of Western Civilisation is upon us.

Fuck vulnerable people, but the Migrant Worker Exploitation Tobacco Guild shall not be robbed!

The Migrant Worker Exploitation Tobacco Guild have put tens of thousands of dollars into getting National elected and they want more pay off for those tens of thousands spent on attacking Labour in their Tobacco outlets pretending to be shops…

…in NZ we have a wonderful class and race element to retail crime.

You have angry and disenfranchise māori and Pacifica youth attacking shops staffed by exploited migrate workers while the white Volk in the suburbs clutch their pearls and scream, ‘something must be done’.

That ‘something’ turned out to be Goldie gifting The Migrant Worker Exploitation Tobacco Guild the right of vigilante violence to bash anyone suspected of shoplifting, so imagine their shock when they hear Police will treat petty theft in the same way they deal with mental health call outs, in that they won’t.

The Migrant Worker Exploitation Tobacco Guild is pissed brosef!

They put so much money into getting National elected, and sure they got their vigilante powers, but they expect the cops to still turn up, they aren’t mentally unwell people who don’t donate to National, they are a Tobacco Guild for exploiting migrant workers and they HAVE donated huge resources to getting National elected.

They want their pound of flesh and watching the Police Commissioner front and promise them  everything they want is just delightful.

This a pantomime to quell the Migrant Worker Exploitation Tobacco Guild and ensure they still donate resources for the next election.

National are the best democracy money can buy.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

    • Grant. Probably policy brigade youngsters, the ones who called the shots on women being terrorised into silence at Albert Park in Auckland.
      .

  1. Clearly Viv BECK and the vape sellers along with the cigarette peddlars bleated to Mitchel so he back flipped on his plane to not include low value shop lifting and family violence in the crime figures to make it look like crime rates are falling .The fact is they are not and he is failing to recruit new police even tho we have 200k unemployed .

  2. More bullshit from a party that campaigned on law and order, and they can’t deliver and ask yourself why they can’t deliver maybe our police are too busy doing gang patch duty may be our police are leaving for Australia.

  3. Raises even more questions …what does ‘investigation’ really mean? And from a legal perspective, does failure to investigate below the threshold now mean that such crime is no longer punishable under the law? If so, that opens a can of worms for all interested parties: law makers, the legal profession, the police, victims, the offenders themselves.

Or as is often the case the media doesn’t have the full story … yet. Police may still be able lay charges and the legal system prosecute offenders in cases ‘under the threshhold’ on a case by case basis, where lengthy and expensive ‘investigation’ is not required. But that doesn’t seem very consistent.

  4. Around 5000 people sitting jail on remand waiting for charges to arranged or in the case of one nearly 5 years while the police make up his charges .The time to get people before a judge is stupid .Most of these people will be released for time served and may well have served more time than if they had been to trial .Thats nearly half of the current inmates which are costing 161k per year to have there .Most likely they are facing minor charges .Surely we could use JPS or the like to sort some of these minor charges .

  5. I haven’t been around for the last 10 years or so, but I’ve been going to Trotter’s blog over the last few weeks. Can anyone tell me what the hell has happened to him? He’s gone totally Zionist, to the point where he ignores any evidence against it.
Someone posted a reference to a letter the other day from BenGurion to his son explaining that they didn’t intend to do abide by the 1948 agreement, but intended to take the whole kit and caboodle, and Trotter says “Notwithstanding the letter, the Jews agreed to the partition and the Arabs didn’t.”
And to cap it off, he is now saying that the pay equity thing is “unaffordable”. And at the same time saying there is no Left left in New Zealand – true enough but does he count himself is still Left I wonder?
Gonna post this in a couple of places since E what sort of answers I get.

  6. Hold on there, National also do their best to allow high value white collar corruption go uninvestigated.
