Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. I’m reading Anne Perry’s Three Debts Paid and find her carefully thought out plots have something of relevance to now. Here is a comment from a character who lectures at Cambridge in Modern History about part of his book:

“Haven’t you any imagination man? This was high drama! Life and death. The fate of one of civilisation’s great countries. It affected all Europe. Damn it, and even America. We all have revolutions, except the English, because we are too damned phlegmatic to go up in flames! Waterlogged! We turn around slowly, and not all at the same time!”
Rather good I thought. And there have been other little bon mots or whatever, certainly not cliche’s. Perhaps that is our trouble – waterlogged and too much good weather so we don’t stay inside reading for wisdom or making cuckoo clocks as the Swiss do, did?

  2. I can do with some lessons on folding a fitted sheet. Anything for a laugh and also learn at the same time presented by a comedian sounds good ‘material’!

How wise, we could do with some of that calm-aid. …“It’s more of an acknowledgement of chicks and how we’re useless without them. They kind of keep us sane but also make us insane sometimes. It’s a balancing act.”..

  3. I came across a mention of submissions on the removal of last copperwire communications in favour of fibre etc. Hadn’t heard about this at all though I look at RNZ news nearly every day top to bottom. Than see that the closing date is today. Then searched for another 20 minutes to find time – it closed at 5pm – office hours! Which is ridiculous when it is the internet – I would think 11.50 pm about should be closing time.

I am hesitant about disconnecting everything. Chorus had planned for 2030 finish but wants to bring it forward. I’ve got landline which has gone to fibre and works all right. I query though making ourselves completely helpless beyond the tech we have pushed on us. It may be too late for wariness. The copper is not going to be dug out of the ground though. I think that some people will do this though as copper goes up in value and in continued demand.

Part of a think piece about Trump and USA:
…In short, those who say Trump is not America, whether they are Americans or Americanophiles, are deluding themselves. Trump did not appear ex nihilo, removed from socio-political context, and his second election proves he’s no anomaly.

The need to believe Trump is not America attests to the undue influence of American culture has had on much of the world. The American people have been moribund for over 30 years; after eight years of Bush-Cheney, and the Obama and Biden interregnums, the soullessness of the American people is just fully manifesting now.
However, like his attack on the so-called global economic order, Trump’s corrupt presidency could have unintended beneficial effects — if self-knowing people can step into the vacuum.

First a proviso. I’m not joining the peddlers of hope and optimism during these dark times. It’s essential we face things as they are, which may mean that there is no response except to get to higher ground to escape the tsunami…
The prior positive influence of American culture, despite its contributions to the post-war political and economic structure, much less to science and music, is a thing of the past.

But just as people all over the world have become, to one degree or another, Americanized, so too, if this deeply noxious and spiritually enervating and philosophically absurd culture radically changes, it would have a beneficial effect on global consciousness….
