Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

    Traveling to the US?

Don’t take your phone with you, buy a burner when you get there.

And if you have ever typed anything critical of US President Donald Trump, leave your laptop at home as well, you can always access your emails on the cloud.

France’s research minister said the scientist was traveling to Houston for a conference when his phone was searched

….A French scientist was denied entry to the US this month after immigration officers at an airport searched his phone and found messages in which he had expressed criticism of the Trump administration….
“I learned with concern that a French researcher who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled,” Philippe Baptiste, France’s minister of higher education and research, said in a statement on Monday to Agence France-Presse published by Le Monde.
“This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher’s phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policy,” the minister added……
“Freedom of opinion, free research, and academic freedom are values that we will continue to proudly uphold. I will defend the right of all French researchers to be faithful to them, while respecting the law,” Baptiste said….

‘Thought Crime’ becomes a reality in America

George Orwell’s eponymous hero Winston Smith recorded his thoughts in a diary.
George Orwell didn’t predict laptops or smart phones and other digital devices for recording your thoughts.
But George Orwell did predict a society where putting your thoughts in a diary could be searched by the authorities, and be evidence of committing a ‘thought crime’, warranting detention and torture.

I have tried to warn of the further destruction of our ACC system – especially since its CEO moved in after having fucked up everything she touches (The MoBIE booking system during COVID, for example).

The Steven Choice bugger’s muddle that is MoBIE needs to be dismantled but we now need to keep our eyes on ACC
Some of theses Masters and Mistresses should never be allowed near any public service roles again.
LABOUR – take note if you actually want to achieve something in future

Three hours sleep and then crash! Aren’t we going a bit like that with the whole country, pushing the economy and society’s bindings to the limit, not awake to what we are doing, and fancying a crash will never happen to us!

A coroner says the driver of a car, one of four people killed in a fatal crash near Canterbury’s Lake Pukaki, was “too tired” and should not have been driving.
The crash between two cars and a motorcycle happened on State Highway 8’s Tekapo-Twizel Road between Hayman Road and Tekapo Canal Road on 30 March 2024.
Three people, including two Canterbury University students from Malaysia and the motorcyclist, died at the scene.
Another three were airlifted to hospital in a serious condition and two people had moderate injuries.
A fourth person, one of the injured, later died in hospital.
One of the students had been driving four friends south from Christchurch in a Mitsubishi and briefly and crossed the centreline before “cutting back in and overcorrecting”.
