Shane Jones argument that cameras on fishing boats amounts to ‘state surveillance’ is so fucking ludicrous no serious adult with a reading age beyond 5 years of age could accept it.
Shane is a pimp for the fishing industry and he wants less ‘state surveillance’ of cameras on boats to protect the industry from true accountability.
He is a despicable human being who pretends cameras on Fishing Boats is ‘state surveillance’.
He is nothing more than a disgusting pimp.
Jack is shocked at Shane’s desire to desecrate Fisheries and the look on his face as Shane sounds off on woke this and woke that.
With fiends like Jones in charge, the Fishing Industry will be allowed to cause any damage they like.
Jack presents fact after fact after fact that continually catches Shane out.
Watching Shane Jones up close and personal trying to defend the indefensible is glorious. His attempt to hide the $7000 donation he received from a boat caught bottom trawling.
His defence of bottom trawling highlights just how venal his arguments are.
PS – For the sake of clarity, Shane Jones did call me a communist last week on Waatea during his interview with Dale Husband.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
I can’t afford to buy NZ fresh fish bounty so I have to rely on eating tinned tuna, a crime really when the country is surrounded by ocean. I bought an unnamed chunk tin the other day and not only did it smell rotten but the flake contents looked like sweepings off the boat floor rather than lovely fish chunks. Almost feel guilty feeding it to a stray cat it was that bad. This is the legacy of the fisheries that RH Jones oversaw.
Ethan B. May I suggest that you try canned sardines. Sardines live and forage deeper down than tuna, and are less contaminated by mercury, pieces of plastic etc than tuna, which are probably the worst of all. I think one sardine brand is decidedly better than the others, go west young man. The cheap canned mackerel isn’t too bad either, if you’re ok with tomato sauce. Generally speaking, the more environmentally hyperbolic the packaging, the less palpatable the contents, IMO.
Sardines are NOT deep water fish.
Farmers and fishers sell their products to kiwis at world prices. So we pay $45/kg for snapper, $11/lb for butter, $18/kg for a block of cheese.
Apparently we produce enough food to feed the 40million with that much supply food prices should be low here. Time for a food export tax to increase local supply.
Oh the 40 million lie pops up again .We do not provide 40 million lamb roasts a week so how can we say we are feeding 4o million and i would doubt we grow 40 million apples a week as well as 40 million packs of butter or cheese .It s just another myth .
Funny guy. Item picking is NOT how it works. LOL.
Jones has gone too far this time, under-estimating the intelligence of the voters like so many second-rate politicians do.
His golden tongue can’t talk him out of this one. If cameras-on-boats does amount to “ state surveillance “, excellent, when the fish barons seem too slippery to be held accountable in spite of knighthoods flung over the waves like so much foam. Two-by-two, NZ First are letting us down, Costello as Minister for Seniors, IMO, and Jones as the Billingsgate boy, and more fools we who thought they were the real thing.
Does Jones want to remove CCTV cameras from our cities because they’re “state surveillance”? Or would that conflict with NZ First’s ‘tough on crime’ stance? In reality, the cameras on boats are just ‘tough on ecosystem crime’, which is obviously just a subset of ‘crime’ and it’s consistent with NZF’s (supposed) principles.

She says all that with one eye open, she is the CEO for fishing after all. Let us see the footage, remember the adage, nothing to hide, nothing to fear.
Call a dolphin, hector, tosser, tosser call a tosser a wanker.
Jones has spent too much time wading in the river of filth with his foil hat on and is clearly stuck in the rabbit hole .Luckily for him and his mate the mental health system was closed down years ago .
State surveillance???…the states total indifference & secrecy to hi-grading is that they don’t want you the public to see…the massive waste that occurs as they target only the species they have quota for.
Every time we go to a supermarket/shop drive our cars we are surveilled & recorded, none of us are asked or consulted it just happens.
Jones is getting all precious about deckhands pulling in the net & what they should not be catching!
Of course it is state surveillance. So let’s do away with all forms of state surveillance, starting with police attendance at large gatherings and political protests, speed cameras, public health inspections of cafes, OSH inspections of work places etc etc.
What a ridiculous suggestion.
Cameras on fishing ships are bad on our streets, shops etc good! What a woke wanker!
Fishers are up there with 2ndhd car salespeople and hort contractors re dicyness. Every camera is justified.
