Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

2/ Economists and global trade experts warn of severe economic consequences from Trump’s tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China…..

This is very good news for US imperialism. In the US, no job means no health insurance, for you, or your family.

‘Severe economic consequences’ should do wonders for US army recruitment.

Which will do wonders for US imperialism’s ability to project its power and fight wars. Which makes military confrontation, (war) a viable option for confronting Chinese expansionism, and protecting US hegemony.

    The U.S. Military’s Recruiting Crisis

The ranks of the American armed forces are depleted.

Is the problem the military or the country?

……In 2022 and 2023, the Army missed its recruitment goal by nearly twenty-five per cent—about fifteen thousand troops a year. It hit the mark last year, but only by reducing the target by more than ten thousand. The Navy has also fared badly: it failed to reach its goals in 2023, then met them in 2024 by filling out the ranks with recruits of a lower standard; nearly half measured below average on an aptitude exam. The Army Reserve hasn’t met its benchmark since 2016, and the ranks are so depleted that active-duty officers have been put in charge of reserve units. Some experts worry that, if the country went to war, many reserve units might be unable to deploy. A U.S. official who works on these issues put it simply: “We can’t get enough people.”….

    Unemployment will help with that.

  3. This sounds good, so why aren’t there people suitable to carry this out. Lincoln Uni should have graduates who know enough about trees, growth rates, and their flammability and uses without toxic treatment for hardwood – ie not pine? Does no NZ man or woman understand this?
…The role was born from the council’s decision to transition away from commercial forestry to create a well-managed continuous canopy amenity forest…

  4. My imagination is astray. I thought I read in news headlines that a Bluebridge ferry was tugged into dock by a dinghy. Thinking of the number of times I have referred to NZ as being the dirty dinghy that follows in the USA wake has fed my prejudices. And that was true, what I saw was that it was helped by a tug. That is a common thing with large boats that can’t manipulate themselves safely.

Tugs may be a vital thing we need if we can’t get ferries suitable for our waters and ports in future. But I expect Winston Peters will be thinking of that – he does seem to have some nous unlike all the other dreamers or prancing ponies.
