Prime Minister says he won’t comment on details of Commerce minister Andrew Bayly’s resignation
Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Andrew Bayly has resigned his ministerial positions after what he says was an “animated discussion” that ended with him putting a hand on a staffer.
Bayly says he took the discussion “too far”, and described his behaviour as “overbearing” and “inappropriate”.
“I am deeply sorry,” he said in a statement.
2 things.
1 – NO ONE is saying why it happened, but it’s apparent to everyone reading between the lines what happened. It wasn’t sexual, it wasn’t violent – so why do you think he’s resigned?
2 – This is so weak of Luxon, he had an opportunity to look decisive and he’s ended up managing to look dithering.
Andrew clearly has some issues and he needs a rest.
He seems tired and emotional.
Perhaps Journalists should ask Luxon what state Andrew was in when he grabbed the staffer?
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Just another sorted rich prick who believes he is better than any one else .Should have been fired before after the first offence .I see MIKI SHERMAN on one news defending him saying these are noy sacking offences .Since when has it been OK for an MP of any stripe to abuse a person while on government business he should have been sacked that day .
Yes, this guy has been the epitome of wasteful spending on a public servant.
The issue is if the victim had not made a complaint Bayley would still be a minister and not sorry at all. He was caught and the PM was cat piss weak in not sacking him the day he new, last Thursday.
To clear up any wild speculation in this and other cases, it’s time that our employees in Parliament fell in line with the general workforce and were subjected to routine random alcohol and drug testing while at work both in the buildings of Parliament and when on official duties. The comment drunk in charge of a country has a ring to it.
Yes
They need a dress code too. Some of their crappy clothing would not be accepted as normal business attire and they are there to conduct business on our behalf, not to show off like hormonal teenagers.
Well actually they are there to govern not necessarily conduct business. That’s half the f’ing problem
I refer to the business of the House ,ie, Parliament.
Ah I see. My bad.
Luxon is incapable of ever giving a straight answer to any direct question regarding this particular scandal nor any other issue with his weird and nasty coalition.
What he will say to us is, a steaming pile of corporate double-speak word-salad waffle.
Not quite gone by lunchtime, but it’s a good start.
Ximon Probably low testosterone. That’s why he’s got no hair. Somebody with a good crop of hair might do better, male or female. There’s some mighty fine heads of hair up there.
Who is the loser now many may think…but let’s remember the thousands sacked by Bayly’s CoC Govt. so far-battling sadistic WINZ/MSD for a pittance while Andrew coasts on an MP salary and benefits with sod all to do.
More dead wood, TM. He’s too old to just sit there on the back bench pretending to be a young minister in training. He should have done the decent thing and resigned from parliament.
A waste of tax-payer’s money just like his weak, pathetic boss, who again failed to cover himself in glory with his handling of the situation.
Not an ounce of honesty or personal integrity among them. It’s all ego.
Where do they find these people? Unfortunately, they are everywhere waiting to stand on a lower-down to get ahead.
And they call US bottom-feeders.
He is still an electoral MP so will be working for his patch just like an other MP.
His touching a worker did not result in bruises to the arm as was the case with Labour’s Minister Whaitiri. While she was sacked as a Minister she kept her other roles so it is a bit rich for Hipkins to point his fi ger at Luxon.
Someone has to break it to you Trev, Mr Bayly will in reality be doing stuff all in his safe tory seat on full pay and benefits, just like bed leg basher Uffindell–“it’s still early lets go out clubbing…”
Looks like there is more to come out yet on this curious case of slow motion resignation and inertia from the Prime Minister.
Come on Trevor, how do you know the assailed wasn’t bruised.
The rumour I’ve heard is that again alcohol was involved.
My guess is that the guy was pissed and got in the staff members face and had to grab him to stop himself falling flat on the floor.
Jeez Trev are you really that thick!
Fuck off with the whataboutism Trevor. That was then, and this is now. He manhandled a female and you think that okay, you loser. Key was another example and a complaint laid.
Stop doing the what about Labour line, we’ve been here before and the list of right wing politicians is higher so just stop.
Fun how the adage you use that wascthen this is now does not apply with cases on the tight like Key and Sam . You cannot undo the past but it does pay to remember the past so you do not make yourself an hypocrite.
I’m glad I taught you that lesson, you’re begging to learn young Trevor. I just gave you an example of how you sound. Well done .
Come on Trevor you just repeat Luxon’s comments. If it was just a touch on the arm why did Luxon say he would have fired Andrew B if he did not resign? Does that mean Luxon was lying or is just totally unreasonable?
The old “late Friday” trick.
It should be clear to all and sundry that Andrew Bayly is actually nothing but a hypocritical bully with history to prove it.
“spdernoSto0u7c0Fr281lcmli102ubu3gc1c90gtr3g1hy2ea920206ul1
Andrew Bayly was owner/operator of Envirofert food waste tip and clean?fill in Tuakau with Gary McGuire, Tuakau local from 1999-2014. In 2014 Bayly entered government, MP for Hunua. Leaving behind many years of unlawful dumping of waste and contamination/pollution of waterways for many years to come. This happened during the years of 1999-2014 under his ownership. He is now going to become the MP for Tuakau again with these boundary changes to be called Port Waikato. How will he treat his constituents with this attitude or are there rules for some and not others!”
He served on the Franklin Council in an Environmental role with a clear conflict of interest as his two brothers, Paul and Michael Bayly were directors/shareholders of this controversial composting plant. My b-in-law and his wife spent years and $’s trying to get rid of the dreadful smells and pollution that evaded their lovely lifestyle property but were blocked at every turn. After 20 years, they eventually had to move for their health and wellbeing.
At the time I wrote to a couple of journalists who were making excuses for this horrible self-absorbed cretin who was a prime stirer in the Michael Wood “drama” over shares. So Andrew, well over time to fall on your sword. Luxon’s handling of it is what we have come to expect from this weak mealy-mouthed PM, no different than the Uffindell issue. No leadership or accountability whatsoever but that is who he is and the sooner this inept CoC implode the better.
Yes many examples of very weak leadership. Luxon has now come out and said he would have sacked him if he hadn’t have resigned. The problem now is that Bayley has not learnt anything and just by resigning he can carry on his merry way unlike if he was sacked he would have had a name and a stigma attached and would have had to change his ways.
Very weak leadership in summary.
“Sod all to do”?
C’mon, he’s one of the ‘hard-working taxpayers’ the PM often quotes.
You know, those hard working people who sit on the bums all day in comfortable, cushioned seats and do nothing, nothing at all, to ‘Grow, grow, grow’ the economy.
Yeah. right!
So sad for the Nats this was their best man.
Hosking gave Luxon a good tune up on radio…..believe it or…not!!
Wonders never cease.
