This is so familiar as a citizen I attempt to move within this tight little political system that is so mean. I hoped to be able to have access to the chief banana here briefly but who knows. In Wellington they have reached the end of the safety rail and have to pull back and reassess or go over to their fate. We must watch and learn or the debacle will be repeated in a town near you. …The departure of the CEO is a glimmer of hope for us all. The performance of the WCC during her tenure has been nothing short of disastrous. Not only have we seen efforts to limit the information flow to councillors, senior council positions loaded with her minions, consultation manipulated and ignored, and public satisfaction with the WCC hit an all-time low – but also our rates and debt levels have spiralled out of control.
After decades of rates increases around the 5-7% mark (it’s worth noting that this well exceeded inflation – so please don’t believe the line that we have had low rates increases in the past) the average over her 5-year tenure is 12.58% (assuming we see the 12.8% increase they are mooting). Allowing for compounding, this means for every $1000 you paid prior to her appointment, you will pay $1804.50 from June this year. That’s an 80% increase over 5 years…

Big swells in Cook Strait? These rich people sure get around. How can the rest of us manage with the weather patterns we get?
Can we get a panel of experienced seafarers of motorised ships and pay them to get together and then keep in touch while they come up with plans and confer with overseas mates and companies as to what is best and available. Then they have a conference and present we citizens with a plan and perhaps two alternatives that would also be feasible, separate from the fluff from pollie light-footed firewalkers who skip over the troublespots with no harm to themselves! We need a Freemasons clique of the sea – important trained experienced achievers just as the stonemasons were.
