Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

There were tense scenes as the two referees for the Christchurch mosque gunman’s firearms licence gave evidence at the coroner’s court.

It saw one of the referees tell a lawyer to “sit down” and refuse to answer her question while the other threatened to walk out as another lawyer was “annoying” him.

The inquest into the deaths of the 51 worshippers murdered at Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre on 15 March 2019 has re-convened for its second phase.

Deputy Chief Coroner Brigitte Windley is examining how terrorist Brenton Tarrant obtained his firearms licence.

On Thursday afternoon, the gunman’s gaming friend and his parent, who were the two referees for the firearms licence application, gave evidence.

The gaming friend said he met the terrorist while playing World of Warcraft online and he had known him about 10 years by 2017.

He told the inquest he had only met the terrorist in person on three separate occasions where they travelled together, and the terrorist stayed at his family home.

He also took the terrorist to a gun club on two occasions and took him rabbit and possum shooting.

When asked by counsel if he was aware of the terrorist’s extremist views, he said he was aware he was right-wing and “anti-immigration”, but he was well travelled and had spoken positively about the countries he visited.
Reading the above, I would think that from the number of times that the referee met the guy who became the ‘gunman’ could regard his knowledge as enough to provide a reference. This relationship would be sufficient for what constitutes mateship or an acquaintance, for many males I believe. So it isn’t as clear cut as the previous critical news report about the police and references made it seem.

    • So a coroner’s court tries to bring the police processes into disrepute but ends up making a fool of herself and the processes of her office. That’s some New Zealand level bumbling right there. The problems of that guy were formed well before he got here. So many people died and families destroyed and now these political monkeys come and dance on their grave. Least they could do was exercise discretion and keep it out of the papers.

      • Huh 20c – keep it out of the papers? That is so 20th century. We now have to look in the mirror and notice our squints and cross-eyes etc. And admit our humbling bumbling. Still have a way to go with that though and it is not nice medicine – don’t like it, take it away.
