Firstly, her track recorder on telling the truth isn’t a great starting point right?
So her argument is that Labour are lying about ACT bringing back the favourite assault rifle of sociopaths because technically a small number of people can buy the favourite assault rifle of sociopaths and because of that, lifting restrictions so everyone can buy the favourite assault rifle of sociopaths isn’t lifting a ban because technically the ban doesn’t exist?

I find it fascinating that of the 1,593 people that potentially have these assault rifles only 328 – Pest Controllers are allowed to fire them. I have no problem with them being used in a professional manner but why would over a 1,000 people own a gun they can’t use? Is this a form of gun worship? To me as a retired farmer my guns – a bolt action 22 and a shotgun were simply tools for euthanasia and pest control. This minister is a real worry.
I agree with all you say .You are hardly going to empty 15 shot magazine to put a cow out of its misery .At least In my case a single shot from the old .22 was enough to do the job .

I still say any hunter that needs an automatic rifle must be a very poor hunter and shot .With todays tech as far as sights go you would have to be a very poor shot indeed .Just look at the skill of the young man that is deemed to have taken a bit of skin off trumps ear ,now that is skill .He could have hit the fat ginger easily had he wanted to kill him with a single shot to the chest or his fat head .
3 of the worst people in NZ are in the act party .Surely the owners,big business ,must be worried about what they have invested their cash in .For fuck sake why would you sponsor these people who are hell bent on killing the population by mass murder,civil war ,or cancer from smoking .As a business owner I would be concerned by how many of my customers these clowns are going to kill off which in turn sends me broke .
There seems to be some confusion here. I know several people who have C and P endorsements which allows them to own AND FIRE most things including proper machine guns. They aren’t pest cullers, they’re collectors.
The reason Ardern didn’t touch the collectors is because Ron Mark was in that cabinet and he has a C endorsement.
A ‘bona fide collector’ endorsement does not allow live firing say, a Maxim or Sten gun that you own as a collector, per section 33A of the Arms Act. I don’t believe it did when we learnt about the Arms Act in Sea Cadets forty years ago either.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ron Mark is just flouting the law though, of course, given his party affiliation. I certainly know plenty of people (including serving police) who shoot their illegally owned pistols for funzies on occasion.
