Identity Politics is such a gigantic political gravity that it has imploded upon itself and created a woke event horizon.
It’s no longer a Black Hole, it’s a Non-Gender Cavity, pronouns they/them.
The manner in which the Māori Party and Kelvin Davis have used Chhour’s identity as a vehicle for attack is actually beneath the mana of the kaupapa and it’s a disservice to being an Opposition and a disservice to the kids who are in Oranga Tamariki care right now.
I think Chhour is to be respected for being an abused ward of the State who is now leading that Ministry, her story matters, however her policies are literally disastrous and a terrible blight is about to strike all kids right now.
519 kids were abused last year in NZ State care, that after the royal Inquiry into Historic Abuse in State Care concluded hundreds of thousands were abused.
7aa was a means of ensuring uplifted Māori children were taken in by Community Iwi, removing it removes the obligation of OT to work with Māori providers.
Chhour dumping 7aa has nothing to do with the welfare of the children and everything to do with allowing Social Investment Big Data to automate uplifts while bashing something that is identifiably Māori for ACTs redneck cracker settler rump voter.
You don’t need to question Chhour’s identity to savagely critic these terrible policies that are knee jerk, counter productive and in the case of Social Invest Big Data Fascism!
Add in the Military Boot Campos and you have enough to end ACT, let alone their puppet Minister.
As Andrea Vance so brilliantly articulates in this cutting review of the the entire situation…
Karen Chhour wept for the television cameras about being bullied in Parliament’s unsafe workplace. Her Crocodilian display of emotion would have been more effective were her party not working to strip away the health and safety protections of employees.
Her complaints should be greeted with scorn by people who know the real meaning of workplace stress, like small business owners coping with high inflation and declining profitability, police officers dealing with violent criminals, overworked nurses or farmers battling increasingly unpredictable elements.
Karen, put your big girl pants on. You are and your party are responsible for some of the most contentious and divisive policies of the last two decades.
Get out there, defend them with argument and intellect, and expect that you are going to take flack from those who believe they are the target of your ideas.
There are genuine victims in politics. But they aren’t in the ACT party.
The party has re-risen by stoking a culture war, peddling identity policies and putting a tale of Pākehā grievance at the heart of party identity. Part of that was relentless attacks on the character and motives of those with which it disagrees.
This war is a mobilisation of resources: people and money. Supporters (and the media) buy into the drama, and the more inflammatory the rhetoric the more excitement, social media engagement and donations it generates.
The resulting demonisation of opponents has deepened partisan divisions. Minor parties are the most guilty of ratcheting up the outrage, because it guarantees attention beyond what they are entitled.
ACT, the party of crybabies, is reaping what it sowed. For it to now seek refuge in manufactured victim-hood is hard to swallow. And there is of course an irony in free-speech champion Seymour wishing to curtail expression because feelings are hurt.
…Ouch!
That is the greatest political take down of the decade.
No one kills like Andrea Vance. No one.
Chhour’s break down over the puppet comment is a Karen doing Karen’s do, weaponising their tears.
I thought the Puppet comment was low fry to the previous comments by the Māori Party towards her, but I suppose the straw that breaks the Camels back is a straw.
The problem for those who want to genuinely attack the policy is that the Māori Party attacks on Chhour’s identity generate sympathy for Chhour when she weaponises her Karen tears, which in turn becomes a symbol of the Māori Party’s hypocrisy rather than focus on an appallingly stupid and racist welfare policy that will cause far more social carnage than it solves.
The debate we are getting is an Identity Politics virtue signal of Outrage Olympics and it’s as boring as it is counter productive.

Someone needs to tell the TPM that they need to change their name to the Dress Up Party.
Poor Trevor so easily triggered by Maori.
Now back to the subject at hand…”You are and your party are responsible for some of the most contentious and divisive policies of the last two decades.”
So Karen can’t handle the heat in the kitchen yet her policies will destroy peoples lives.
End of story
End of story in your eyes.
Joseph and Ada have a great post and speak the truth about TPM.A dangerous party of racists who appeal to the radicals in Maoridom . They have legitimate grievances but there are legitimate means to sort them out not bully boy moves .
What are people so afraid of. Have a look at the UK look at what racism actually looks like. Is TPM or Labour doing this Trevor et.al. Farage has been blamed for this violence because of his racist rhetoric. I put to you David Seymour is heading Aotearoa in the same direction. Seymour et.al will open Pandora’s box and he will damage Aotearoa for maybe ever.
Act are dividing NZ as much as they can and Luxon is allowing it as he has no control .Luxon should haul Act ministers over the coals ASAP .
These policies are solely geared do divide nz so the government can continue to destroy all foward momentum we have made over the last 6 years .We are now falling over the fiscal cliff as each day more projects are shut down and more money that has been invested goes into cook straight along with the ferries .
This is a government of divide and rule .

Karen is a victim of her own parties lust for power of her infantile leader and her rich masters .
Having known a few maori in pakeha foster families and stolen generation aborigine over the years I can appreciate Chhours sensitivity to the attacks on her identity. On a human to human level TPM are so wrong. There are thousands of maori/pakeha people in NZ and TPM going around telling them they are too pakeha is appalling.
Have you ever been wronged by an organistion and thought how different it would be if you personally ran the place? Chhour did that. Chhour is tough enough to rise and take vengeance on the very government department that wronged her. Look out TPM.
Ms. Chhour is in the wrong party. If she doesn’t step aside or change parties, her tears and hurt feelings are just a big act.
If she’s finding her feelings are overwhelming, she must be pushing policy which she knows is not going to help children in care. I’ve said for months, she’s not the ideal person for the job. Parties on the right wouldn’t have an ideal person not being big on altruism or self-awareness.
Has Ms. Chhour not heard the old saying, ‘A govt. is only as good as it’s opposition.’ It’s their job to point out the obvious flaws in her policy. That’s not bullying.
Seymour can’t be critical of opposition expressing their concerns while insisting we all listen to his twisted opinions.
She was a class traitor, is a class traitor, and always will be a class traitor.
If you join a party that sets out to reduce the incomes of the workers, and the poor, you are a class traitor, Plain and simple.
