Because of the ‘Washington Consensus‘ that NONE of us consented to, the New Zealand Government answers to the American Government, so who wins in November does impact New Zealand.
We are drenched in American soft power, that’s why Warner Bros own one of our TV stations, why we are smothered with American pop music, American culture, American movies, American TV, American social media.
We are in a space that is being contested by China and America, America is contesting that by drowning us in their culture while China is contesting it with direct economic power.

If Kamala Harris really wants to show she is ready to turn a new page in the campaign against Donald Trump, it’s obvious who her choice as running mate should be: Bernie Sanders.
If not Bernie, she should pick Pete Buttigieg who is just brilliant.
It sounds like she’s going to pick ‘Genocide Josh’ instead, the Pennsylvania Governor who said this about the anti-war crime protestors…
They point to his support for the dismissal of University of Pennsylvania president Elizabeth Magill amid campus protests earlier this year; his comments suggesting that people wouldn’t tolerate “people dressed up in KKK outfits” and therefore shouldn’t tolerate campus antisemitism; his support as Pennsylvania attorney general for using an anti-BDS law to end state contracts with Ben & Jerry’s for refusing to sell ice cream to Israeli settlements in the West Bank; and an update to the code of conduct for state employees earlier this year that barred “scandalous or disgraceful” behavior, which raised concerns among First Amendment advocates and pro-Palestinian protesters.
…ugh.
If Kamala picks Genocide Josh, then it’ll be a fight between an Orange Fascist and an Israeli apologist.
I hope Democrats have more than childless cat memes that leave a sick burn to win.
The 135million Americans living in poverty who are but one financial crisis away from homelessness deserve better from the Democrats than an Israeli Apologist.

To win the Democrats are going to need the youth ( for boots on ground) and Muslim vote ( for key swing states). Buttijudge? NOOOOOO!!!!! He was the cool young unknown last election, he’s been a hopeless transport minister since and did a crap job of the Palestine train disaster (also ex McKinsey, yuck). The smart choice is Tim Walz. Very affable, some really good policies instigated in his state and calls out the Republicans really well. Also liked by unions.

“Boynie” is brilliant, class left, and still has his marbles–but time waits for no one and he has had a few shots, will serve out till the end in Vermont I’m picking. Mr Sanders could have beaten Trump back in 2016 but he was way too far for the DNC. In 2020 the campaign sabotaged him again, Biden was nowhere till the fix was in with staged withdrawals by other candidates.
Lets hope Kamala Harris makes a wise choice–but don’t count on it!
sure you could pick Bernie Sanders and watch the Democrats get destroyed. At best he will do nothing to grow the democrat base. The same people that’ll vote for him would have voted for Kamala any way.
It’s the same as Trump picking Vance. It does absolutely nothing to grow his base.
If Bernie were to be chosen he would needs the rubber stamp of AIPIC and the MIC.
Only hope the usa has of breaking the AIPAC MIC noose is DR Jill Stein of the green party and the establishment is putting all efforts to hinder her campaign in any way they can and she is still getting her name on ballots.
Look, I love Bernie, surely the most charismatic of grumpy old men (and that photo of him wearing enormous gloves on a cold day is such a hoot) — but. Let’s leave Trump as the only one against whom age can be raised as a weapon (speaking myself as a chap in my 80s).
Kamala is on fire, and Trump is panicking: his tweets are becoming more deranged by the day. Let’s hope he doesn’t dump JD Vance, the gift who keeps on giving to the Dems. If he did, and picked Nikki Haley instead, that would, unfortunately, warm up his campaign. Let’s hope his pig-headedness won’t allow him to do that.
My preference for Kamala is to pick Mike Kelly, an astronaut for heaven’s sake, and his senator wife a shooting victim. And he’s needed as balance, a bog-standard WASP male.
It won’t be Sanders because she wants to win. Simples. . .

I’m hoping she picks Tim Walz, he has an impressive record as governor or Minnesota and pretty much kick started the “weird” attack against the Republicans which has been driving them crazy
