Wow.
Look at that massive jump in water you are all now paying.
Remember when Labour’s solution to stop those costs hitting you was 3 Waters which the Right Wing AstroTurf Dark Net decried as a secret agenda for da Māoris stealing da water.
Sure there were problems with 3 Waters, but those could have been solved, instead we now get the full force of the cost being dumped on end users in just another User Pays model step on the road to privatisation.
Labour had a solution to this, they sold it poorly and didn’t defend it well enough against the ultra motivated redneck settler cracker faction.

Now we are all paying the cost.
As the cost explodes, wait for privatisation to be the solution.
You are so easily played NZ.

I don’t think any number of waters would have saved me from the sheer incompetence of Wellington city council and their cash grabs to fund their non stop vanity projects.
Yep loving the nearly 5k rates bill along with the massive increases in the cost of insurance .My car insurance went up 60% and tower could not even reply when I asked for a please explain .
People fell for the maori bashing from the right and now we are bent over the table taking it from behind .
This government is doing nothing to progress NZ ,even that muppet Damian Grant has finally admitted as much throwing his hands in the air and admitting we are going backwards .
We are going down hill faster than and Isreali bomb on Gazza
MB you got it in one .Labour had some good ideas but did not sell them well or actually put them into action.
Love them or hate them National are fulfilling election pledges and allowing their coalition partners to get some of their platform over the line as well.
The success of these moves will be judged at the next election. Personally I do not agree with all their moves but on the whole I would vote for them again .
NZ is long narrow country with multiple District and Regional Councils with small rating bases which will never be able to fund everything that needs doing–let alone water infrastructure. There are one or two like Whangārei that claim to have done ok with water supply, safety and stormwater. Most DCs though are in the crap with “boil water” notices all over the country–including Queenstown!
Tragic the way Labour lost the narrative on Three Waters. Perhaps they took on too much with ditching the DHBs too. In my area–Far North–various farmers, and other nutters off grid, who do not use any FNDC services relating to water, sewage or stormwater, erected anti Three Waters signage (often professionally produced…) adjacent to State Highways and got thousands of eyeballs every day.
Rates increases have been horrendous for working class people throughout the country, and water infrastructure still will not be fixed. When showers of shit regularly burst through the streets in Wellington it is obvious there is a problem…
My water is not costing a cent more than it did 1, 2, 10 years ago. The only change for us in dumping 3 waters is now no one can dictate what we do with our tank water.
incorrect the council can still deem it to be unsafe .This government will privatize it soon and tax you on it so they can pay more to the elite
your tank will be empty soon then you will be paying through the nose .Even the thick farmers are noticing that the climate is effecting how many stock they can run hence the shortage and increase in meat prices .
Ha, Wait till they come with regulations on how much water you are allowed to take from the natural waterway that is rainfall. Some state only allow 200 litres to be stored.
https://worldwaterreserve.com/is-it-illegal-to-collect-rainwater/
Whilst the Maryland proposed rain tax got soundly beaten out of the legislation in 2013, Toronto is now looking at taxing large commercial car parking spaces (shopping malls etc), to pay for storm water upgrades. How long before the Maryland tax on rainfall is reconsidered? Could someone like Wellington consider a “rain tax”? be right up the Greens alleyway, No?

Don’t think for one minute you will be free from taxation due to your (smug?) situation with water self storage. It can change in a heart beat.
This government is dictating what your stay in hospital is like.
Well said Peter. I too have tank water but pay the same amount $312 pa because their is a connection onto our property.
No end of discussion has enabled us to have that connection physically disconnected or any credit for the fact that we are compelled to have a tank as we live in a low pressure area with insufficient supply for fire fighting. To get a permit to build a dwelling in our village you need to have 50000 litres of water storage.
Adding insult to injury we have no reticulated sewage or storm water.
We have to have a engineered septic system current cost about $30k and pay an annual fee of $250 on top of our rates for an annual inspection that takes all of 10 minutes. We have to cover the cost of any required maintenance eg $750 for a new pump last year.
So if you take the cost of all these things over the life of the system 3 waters would probably be quite cheap for us. So I think you are one of a very small number that might be better off.
Our council has just announced that water rates will probably increase by $500 per year over the 5 years.
Well done the coalition of chaos.
Oh and our electorate dumped a Labour MP and voted in a Nat MP who moved into the electorate 3 months before the election. Bet there’s plenty who regret that choice now.
Who was going to eventually have to foot the bill for 3 Waters? It was just a massive money merry-go-round with Maori as the ringmasters that would inevitably lead to unsustainable levels of debt.
At least with the existing arrangement those that voted for stupid councils get to bear the brunt of the consequences.
Apartment dwellers are also being charged $80 for a service we dont receive, so much for user pays, its just theft.
We aren’t all paying the cost- our council water infrastructure is just fine thanks.
Dysfunctional Wellington and Auckland water on the other hand are having to invest in their infrastructure. As they should have been for years.
Wellington can’t sponge off everyone else, how sad.
It will still be a fraction of the cost of the ethnic bureaucracy of 3 waters.
At least water is core Council business rather than stadiums, white elephant convention centres and cycle lane madness eg Thorndon Quay.
