NZ is forced to pay attention to the US Elections because thanks to the ‘Washington Consensus’ (that none of us consented to) our Government answers to the American Government.

So we have to be aware of what happens in November.

I don’t care that she has a weird fake laugh.

I don’t care that her wellness word salads come across as shallow and flakey.

I don’t care that she was picked because of her identity.

I don’t care that she started her political career with a bloke 30 years older than her.

I don’t care that she is childless (despite being a Step mother) or that she has a cat.

I don’t give a shit about any of that because the alternative is a fucking Nazi!

None of Kamala’s supposed sins are in the same galaxy as the tsunami of abuse of power that Trump has committed.

His second Term would be a blight on global democracy in a way that could kick off damaging ramifications beyond anyones ability to control.

If a Brat meme is what is required to stop Trump, Brat meme away!

Would it have been better to find a stronger candidate and host a primary?

Sure, but we ain’t there any longer and we simply do not have the luxury to do anything other than throw support behind Kamala on the understanding that once elected she will do something meaningful to stop the war in Gaza, radical adaptation towards climate change and lifting the 135million Americans out of poverty.

Trump is that much of an existential threat.

All power with Kamala Harris, the fight will be steep…

  1. “I don’t care that she was picked for her identity”. They are all picked for their identity. Why do you think they chose Vance? Because he was supposed to appeal to the Beverly Hillbillies. They chose Biden as VP under Obama to offset the whole black man in the Oval Office. The whole identity card at this level is a given no matter what side of the isle.

  2. Wheel is right and its sad we have to care about two woefully awful candidates in a jurisdiction where we have no vote. Trump is a narcissist and Harris a former voted-in lawyer. Hardly Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Kamala is doing a Jacinda when it comes down to it–a huge wave of support with no real transformation likely at the end–but…but…she is not Trump, and may empower under the thumb Republican women to vote on reproductive rights. Get real, the fundamentalists are proposing arresting and returning women that go to another state for an abortion!

    Ms Harris can do it–if newly registered voters, women, and some of the alienated can be reached and persuaded to vote. The MAGAs mostly all vote so the fact that the demographics have already diminished them are the dirty little secret.

    It is a steep climb with bent Electoral College, gerrymandering, harsh registration requirements and all the rest of the voter suppression. Turnout is King and that is what they need to work on–including offering something to Muslim voters on Palestine, Michigan depends on that.

    • 4 months to the election. Kennedy has 20 percent support overall. He has 40% support amongst independent voters. Fifty percent of registered voters tick independent rather than Democrat or Republican. If 75 percent of the voters think the other two candidates are shit could independent Kennedy ride a growing wave of support? The long shot bet was paying 60 to 1 (down from 5000 to 1 in Jan) before Harris entered the race.

  5. Mr Bradbury, as you will know by now I seldom agree with you. In this case I find myself agreeing with your conclusion, that Ms Harris would be preferable to Mr Trump as President of the US. Even if I had to get past your ludicrous first paragraph, and the somewhat over-wrought language with which you make your argument. It is the latter that brings out the nutters, like Zelder and somebody who titles himself Killer something or other, as examples. But then, perhaps that was your intention?

  7. Wow sorry, not sorry MEA culpa about Kamala Harris, a black asian American women who is a first in a number of roles, roles that require a legal brain that functions. She didn’t get there because she slept her way to the top. Just more misogyny. For a middle left Democrat she is more left than Biden and will not support Israel in the same manner. Bernie would been better against Trump but we can blame Obama for that screw up, and Ruth G for not quitting when she should have to blame for the Supreme Court, which will allow Trump to get away with murder, just like he said he could.

    • Harris joined a state government department and was then voted into state legal positions that in New Zealand require rigorous non-partisan process. By US state standards she might be a star, but probably not here even with our small population.

Even though this will hurt US service people and do nothing good for the average “deplorable” or “wokester” the Israel lobby will have control. Let’s face it the Israel lobby have the money, the sex tapes and whatever else required to control the Senate, Congress, Presidency.

    Up until 3 weeks ago the ever-lying media were telling you Biden was “as sharp as a tack” but when that narrative fell apart during the debate, they all realigned behind Harris. Just like that, without even pausing for breath. They will now reinvent Harris and create another completely fabricated image of her. From now to November expect to be bombarded with so much bullshit you won’t even know which way is up.

      As you say though most people probably haven’t bothered watching her speeches or have any idea about what she wants to do with immigration etc.

      As for Biden he’s now too busy off working out how he can change the SCOTUS (here’s a hint Joe – you can’t without a constitutional amendment).

      Imagine what would have happened if Trump said he was going to try to do this? But apparently it’s ok when the “good guys” talk about it

  14. Her choice of VP will give some idea of what her level of success will be. To get the turn out she will need she must get – particularly – the youth out on her side.
