NZ is forced to pay attention to the US Elections because thanks to the ‘Washington Consensus’ (that none of us consented to) our Government answers to the American Government.

So we have to be aware of what happens in November.

I don’t care that she has a weird fake laugh.

I don’t care that her wellness word salads come across as shallow and flakey.

I don’t care that she was picked because of her identity.

I don’t care that she started her political career with a bloke 30 years older than her.

I don’t care that she is childless (despite being a Step mother) or that she has a cat.

I don’t give a shit about any of that because the alternative is a fucking Nazi!

None of Kamala’s supposed sins are in the same galaxy as the tsunami of abuse of power that Trump has committed.

His second Term would be a blight on global democracy in a way that could kick off damaging ramifications beyond anyones ability to control.

If a Brat meme is what is required to stop Trump, Brat meme away!

Would it have been better to find a stronger candidate and host a primary?

Sure, but we ain’t there any longer and we simply do not have the luxury to do anything other than throw support behind Kamala on the understanding that once elected she will do something meaningful to stop the war in Gaza, radical adaptation towards climate change and lifting the 135million Americans out of poverty.

Trump is that much of an existential threat.

  1. “I don’t care that she was picked for her identity”. They are all picked for their identity. Why do you think they chose Vance? Because he was supposed to appeal to the Beverly Hillbillies. They chose Biden as VP under Obama to offset the whole black man in the Oval Office. The whole identity card at this level is a given no matter what side of the isle.

Kamala is doing a Jacinda when it comes down to it–a huge wave of support with no real transformation likely at the end–but…but…she is not Trump, and may empower under the thumb Republican women to vote on reproductive rights. Get real, the fundamentalists are proposing arresting and returning women that go to another state for an abortion!

    Ms Harris can do it–if newly registered voters, women, and some of the alienated can be reached and persuaded to vote. The MAGAs mostly all vote so the fact that the demographics have already diminished them are the dirty little secret.

    It is a steep climb with bent Electoral College, gerrymandering, harsh registration requirements and all the rest of the voter suppression. Turnout is King and that is what they need to work on–including offering something to Muslim voters on Palestine, Michigan depends on that.

  5. I do find it ironic that many claim that Trump will be the end of democracy, when (and if Kamala is ‘chosen’) there will be nothing democratic about her appointment.

    She failed to even make the first vote during the original Democrat primary after her past was brutally exposed by Tulsi Gabbard in ten minutes. Now she’s about to run for president? How did we get here?

        This is because the Democrat Party isn’t really a ‘Workers Party’ and may never have been. It is the party of billionaire donors and a radical academic elite. None of whom have ever had dirt under their fingernails or done a real day’s work outdoors.

        They exhibit a pretense of caring in order to garner the votes of fools. They raise minimum wages but at the same time undermine them by encouraging mass illegal migration. They support state schools but make sure they lock in the tax revenue from the wealthy areas into their local schools while the ghetto schools don’t even get books. They impose impossible building standards in Democrat run counties to prevent low-cost housing impinging on their wonderful lifestyles. Hypocrisy doesn’t even begin to cover it!

        At some point someone on this blog will figure out that the new ‘populist’ movements are actually workers parties.

        • Can’t remember any VP being elected. Otherwise, up until now, the Demz have always held primaries to select their presidential candidate. But no more, the people are no longer worth consultation, aka, the Demz have ended democracy, not big-mouthed Trump.

        I don’t think the political right elites wanted Trump at all. However he is a political phenomenon (no one can argue with that) that rolled over all of the Republican presidential candidates. If the political elites in the Republican Party had their choice, it wouldn’t be Trump, it would probably be Haley or some other war monger. Neither of the Bushes have ever supported Trump so that tells you that the insiders hate Trump as much as the democrats (which is half he’s appeal).

        The fact that we have Trump vs Harris is really not much of an improvement from Trump vs Biden. Look up Gabbard’s tearing apart of Kamala’s Democratic nomination. She’s a very unpleasant person, who ironically went out of her way to hurt many Black’s while DA in San Francisco

  7. I asked myself… What is the United States of America? What is it exactly..?
    I know it’s a title given to a huge landmass covered in all sorts of life, including human life in all its permutations but other than that, what is it?
    I see it as a mechanism to enable the mentally ill to become the stuff of nightmares for each other and everyone else. Who dropped two atom bombs on two heavily populated cities? Where else can you kill yourself by over eating the food which isn’t that that you didn’t actually need? Is God really blessing America despite all the outpourings and pleas for the vast wealth one couldn’t spend in a life time?
    The USA is a mental asylum for people who were not insane until they went there, then they became their own worst nightmares. Everyone everywhere, according to the spin, want to be Usamericans but I’m trying to figure out why. The USA’s even at odds with our only planet. Everything it does it does to extreme excess which pushes us all every closer to extinction and you know who craves excess, right? Well, we do. All of us.

    • 4 months to the election. Kennedy has 20 percent support overall. He has 40% support amongst independent voters. Fifty percent of registered voters tick independent rather than Democrat or Republican. If 75 percent of the voters think the other two candidates are shit could independent Kennedy ride a growing wave of support? The long shot bet was paying 60 to 1 (down from 5000 to 1 in Jan) before Harris entered the race.

      • It will never happen (unfortunately). Both the Democrats and Republicans have an agreement with every news channel that they will only debate each other.

        Many years ago Ross Perot made both presidential candidates look stupid, as so the two parties wrote in law that a 3rd candidate will never have a chance to debate them again.

  12. Mr Bradbury, as you will know by now I seldom agree with you. In this case I find myself agreeing with your conclusion, that Ms Harris would be preferable to Mr Trump as President of the US. Even if I had to get past your ludicrous first paragraph, and the somewhat over-wrought language with which you make your argument. It is the latter that brings out the nutters, like Zelder and somebody who titles himself Killer something or other, as examples. But then, perhaps that was your intention?

She didn’t get there because she slept her way to the top. Just more misogyny. For a middle left Democrat she is more left than Biden and will not support Israel in the same manner. Bernie would been better against Trump but we can blame Obama for that screw up, and Ruth G for not quitting when she should have to blame for the Supreme Court, which will allow Trump to get away with murder, just like he said he could.

    • Harris joined a state government department and was then voted into state legal positions that in New Zealand require rigorous non-partisan process. By US state standards she might be a star, but probably not here even with our small population.

      As for Biden he’s now too busy off working out how he can change the SCOTUS (here’s a hint Joe – you can’t without a constitutional amendment).
