WAATEA NEWS COLUMN: State abuse against Māori continues despite Royal Inquiry

The true horror of abuse exposed by the New Zealand State against 200 000 children is so enormous, it is difficult to fully comprehend and must take months to resonate throughout the entire political system.

Children were tortured, sexually assaulted and terribly abused.

Many, many, many of those children were Māori.

80-90% of Gang Members were abused in State Care.

The impact of this abuse has been calculated as more traumatic than Colonisation.

Māori children suffered the worst levels of physical abuse and the ongoing impact of Police and Judiciary in their lives tagged them for a never ending cycle of negative impacts by a brutal and draconian State system.

That we should have the magnitude of this report released in the same week that the Government are launching their flawed military Boot Camps adds insult to injury.

The ‘get-tough-on-crime’ Brigade alongside the new anti-Māori, anti-Treaty racist agenda are still driving this State attack against Māori for a crime problem the State itself created!

We should be ashamed of ourselves that this is what New Zealand was and continues to be.

We have allowed ourselves to have our fear about crime manipulated into counter productive knee jerk social policy that only causes more trauma!

The State’s new war on gangs is simply an extension of abuse that started when the State first abused these children.

We refuse to allow healing to be a social policy, in favour of the new Mega Prison we are building.

The 200 000 children that our New Zealand State abused deserve better than this nightmare.

We should all be deeply regretful and guilty about how this happened and why it is continuing.

A sad horrific day for Aotearoa New Zealand.

  1. yes its a sad day for all of NZ .
Luxon needs to shut down all anti maori retoric from himself and his coalition partners .
Da Maori are stealing the water ,Da Maori are stealing the health system ,Da Maori want their land back .has got to stop right now .Luxon needs to sit Seymour down and make sure he understands that the treaty is out of bounds and he is to remove his grubby mitts off it .
The chain smoking old bugger Winston needs to remove his ali hat and shut his racist mouth and attacks on anyone that wants to improve the out come for maori .Dr pork needs to return to the pig farm and learn some respect for his elders and all they have been through for the last 200 years .

  2. How can this government cry crocodile tears about the state care abuse report when the PM and Doocey hadn’t even read it plus last evening they returned to banning Maori wards legislation, continuing with boot camps getting rid of the treaty in health education and child care resulting in the underhand assimilation of Maori.

    • The things you mention are not necessarily connected. It best to focus on who was personally in power at the time. It will obviously be boomers whom we the innocent taxpayers now have to indemnify.

  3. The pakeha that created the Mongrel Mob which saw Maori in significant numbers join this gang were also in state care being sexually abused. Sexual, physical, emotional violence didn’t discriminate in state care, Maori or non-maori were vulnerable to predator behavior by govt officials and other inmates. These pedo’s need to be named if that possible? Compensation should be paid to the victims that are still alive hopefully because just saying sorry isn’t enough also listening to crocodile tears talk by PM Luxon & his anti-Maori treaty of waitangi govt coalitions doesn’t mean shit!

    • Squeaky, setting up maori wards were not democratic either, let the people living in the area have a vote on whether they want unelected maori representatives on their council, with veto and voting rights.
If they vote for having it, then so be it!
But Labour allowing ALL councils to have one should they wish, without consulting the voters of that local council area, is well not very democratic is it Squeaky?!
