Russia and Belarus have been rightfully banned from the Olympics for their violence in the Ukraine, yet Israel’s disproportionate ethnic cleaning war crime of a response won’t have them banned from the Olympics?

8% of the entire Gazan population are either dead, wounded or detained while 77% of all buildings have been destroyed.

I’m no expert on war crimes or crimes humanity, but when you are getting solid percentages like that, it seems a tad murderous.

When your soldiers are caught tying the wounded to your vehicles, that moral high ground gets pretty subterranean.

At the very least let’s hope the other athletes shun them and won’t appear on any medal pedestals if they win any medals.

When you’ve committed an atrocity like the disproportionate response is, you don’t get to play with the other kids in the sandpit like nothings happened.

If civilised people won’t turn away in disgust and protest, then we are all stained by Israel’s appalling violence.

  1. Well if the competitive categories include talking absolute bullshit I am sure the Israeli administration would win gold, no worries. Might want to keep them away from the javelin. They’d keep impaling the crowd, and claim it was an accident

When you look at the very real war crimes, mass rapes, torture, cannibalism that have been committed against civilians in Little Rus by units like the Tornado Battalion, which were so horrific that even the Zelensky regime prosecuted them (though they’ve since been released), it’s hard not to think that Ukraine should be suspended from the Olympics.

    Will even just one of our current crop of sporting champions have the sort of moral fortitude and courage to make the same sort of personal sacrifice and publicly refuse to attend the games in Paris alongside a country committing genocide?

    Like human decency and empathy and intelligence, and the courage of Graham Mourie to act on it?

    Can they be captains on and off the field?

  4. You are right but then you need to ask which countries are not unworthy at some level.If you follow the news then most countries treat it diverse citizens badly or bully other countries due to greed ,race or gender

    • I am going to go out on a limb here and say killing 8% of a population and destroying 70% of their buildings is fairly low hanging fruit when selecting nominees for the ‘absolute wankers’ award category.

  5. The problem is where to draw the line. Perhaps Turkey is banned until it recognises its genocide of Arminians. The Tutsis (what are left of them) have a case against Rwanda. Most Middle East countries have systematically killed their Christian citizens who have been there 800 years longer than any Muslim, a new religion in comparison. So, where to start?

    Now that’s a thought. Politics and sport at ground level. But how does it really work? Olympic teams briefed on what is permissible and what is not? Individual athletes free to go with their own conscience, whatever that may be? How has it played out in the past? A good many though will simply say, some under their breath, there’s no place for sport and politics and receive their well deserved medals on the world stage.
