Ummmmm.

What?

Kiwi journalists ‘shoved’, ‘grabbed’ by New Zealand officials for trying to ask China Premier Li Qiang questions

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has been grilled by Kiwi journalists accusing New Zealand officials of “shoving” and “grabbing” reporters during the China Premier’s visit.

Premier Li Qiang visited New Zealand last week to mark 10 years since the conclusion of the NZ China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It was the first visit to New Zealand by a Premier from China since 2017.

During his visit, journalists were told not to ask questions. Now, instances of New Zealand officials obstructing journalists from questioning the Premier have emerged.

At a Wednesday press conference during Luxon’s visit to Japan, reporters raised with the Prime Minister instances of alleged mistreatment by New Zealand officials.

One reporter claimed they were physically grabbed by an official while trying to ask a question, while another said they were shoved.

Luxon said he was unaware of the incident and urged the reporter to lay a formal complaint so it could be investigated.

“What I’m saying to you is it doesn’t sound acceptable and, therefore, raise the issue formally so we can respond to that.”

Luxon defended the decision not to allow journalists to ask questions of the Premier.

…ummmmm.

Again.

What?

Government staff shouldn’t be shoving Kiwi journalists to protect China especially with new allegations of a new Chinese spy inside the Government!

Who is Luxon protecting?

NZ or the new Chinese spy inside his own Government?

  1. If it actually happened, surely the reporters could simply… talk about it so we can see the video, right? The trauma can’t be that bad, surely?

Let me guess, this is going to be a ‘reporter’ from some Falun Gong front like the ‘Epoch Times’ or ‘China Uncensored’.

  2. Luxon has got it back to front. Visitors need to respect our way of doing things as we do when visiting them.

In comparison, Australia got it right when telling the Chinese there should be no impediments to Australian journalists going about their job.

Which is what Luxon should have made clear to the Chinese embassy here.

    • With two children in Australia they both say the government has been strive due to them upsetting China and the economic hit that caused. Australia have things China needs we have things they would like to have but could stop without effecting their economy.
We need them so they can call the shots when it comes too who does what .

      • The price isn’t exactly high. They don’t want to control our government. They just don’t want us to join the American race war against Chinese people. That sounds perfectly fine to me, I suspect most people who aren’t really super focused on hating Chinese are fine with it.

      • We also have what they require.

Except, we don’t have a backbone.

One can not afford to show weakness in politics or business.
