Budget Cuts Chances Of Liveable Future – Green Party

Scrutiny of Budget 24 and advice to the Minister of Finance shows the Government is knowingly increasing emissions and shredding climate action.

โ€œThe Government’s Budget comes at a tremendous cost to our climate. People and planet pay the price,โ€ says Green Party co-leader Chlรถe Swarbrick.

โ€œFor the first time, we have it in black in white that the Government knew their budget decisions would increase emissions โ€“ and thatโ€™s only for the initiatives they decided to do the analysis on.

โ€œThe Minister of Finance had no answer and no justification for this in todayโ€™s scrutiny session.

โ€œThe climate crisis is not only a threat to life on earth as we know it, but Treasury and Ministry for the Environment have shown that our commitments under the Paris Agreement leave us on the hook for anywhere between $3 to $24 billion.

โ€œBasically, we either reduce emissions ourselves, or we pay others to do it.

โ€œThis Government is budgeting for neither, hoping to quietly push unfathomable cost into the future.

โ€œThat strategy can only work so long. The bill for Government inaction is growing and New Zealanders will pay the cost.

โ€œWe are running out of time to secure the liveable future we all want and deserve. This Government wants to pretend theyโ€™re good economic managers while actively deteriorating the climate necessary for a functional economy.

โ€œThe solutions exist. All that is lacking is the political will to people and planet before short-term profit.

โ€œTime and again, this Government shows us whose side theyโ€™re on, and itโ€™s not that of regular people, future generations, or the planet we all share,โ€ says Chlรถe Swarbrick.

  1. So where is the alterative Budget?

Couldn’t you be bothered doing one? Is this all you’ve got?

You say our commitments under the Paris Agreement leave us on the hook for anywhere between $3 to $24 billion.

Well, clearly we were stupid to agree to that

Can you pull us out of it?

And if not, can you tells us exactly what you would do if in charged?

After all, you did say the solutions exist. So lets here them all in detail, thanks

  2. There is no alternative Budget there. Ditto re answers to my other questions.

Therefore, why point me to a link that fails to answer my questions.

Is it you are too lazy to answer my questions? You seem as useless as them.
