State of the Union: Biden draws election battle lines in fiery speech

President Joe Biden delivered a fiery State of the Union address on Thursday, taking repeated swipes at Donald Trump and covering the broad themes of his re-election campaign.

Mr Biden used the term “my predecessor” to refer to Mr Trump 13 times in a speech that lasted more than an hour.

He accused his likely election opponent of “bowing down” to Russia and criticised him over the Capitol riot.

Mr Biden also covered immigration, abortion, the economy and Gaza.

The atmosphere in the House chamber was raucous at times, with loud cheering from Democrats and heckling from some Republicans.

Very strong State of the Union Speech by Biden.

He reminded everyone the gulf of difference between his morality and dystopia of Trump in a way that strengthened his narrative.

43% Voters before his speech had a positive view of Biden’s direction, that number jumped to 65% after the speech.

The focus was on Biden’s performance, would he stumble and fumble and would his age become a factor.

This performance answered those fears.

He is old, sure, but an old Biden is far better than a younger Trump.

After the 4 year trauma of Trump, America needed an emotional support Labrador, and that is what Biden has been. America’s extraordinary economic bounce back from Covid has been far greater than anyone else’s but like all Nations the rich have benefitted most while the poor have been crushed.

Trump trades on resentment and culture war revenge fantasies. He understands the terrible pain of the working classes feeling left behind and he has traded on those resentments for enormous political capital.

Biden reminded voters of a higher horizon than their vengeance and he set America’s Star to that higher horizon and if we can just ignore Israel’s ethnic cleansing war crime and America’s total support for that atrocity, we can pretend America is righteous long enough to stop Trump from tipping the United States of Paranoia into full fledged Orange Fascism.

  1. A good speech, not as inspiring as Obama used to deliver early in hid terms, but a strong speech.
My only criticism was the opening few minutes of typical hawkish US Exceptionalism in regard to US murderous foreign problems and war mongering and its self appointed role as world policeman.

  2. God it gets so boring this Biden Trump non story. The real story is that whoever wins, we the people lose.

Watch National using ACT to introduce Atlas Network policies aka cut out any vestige of the welfare state and privatise whatever left. In UK Sunak is doing the same with Starmers (Labour) implied consent.

We the people are becoming serfs for the new feudal aristocracy. Electoral pitchforks are required.

    • Tucker Carlson … seriously? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha … because LOL just don’t cut it here.

  3. The speech was alright but he’s not going to get back those voting uncommitted which he needs to win until he cuts Israel’s military aid and demands a ceasefire, aside from it being the right thing to do…
