Leaked Cabinet paper reveals Government considering allowing potential influx of overseas landlords

Newshub has been leaked another Cabinet paper which reveals the Government is considering allowing for a potential influx of overseas landlords.

The Housing Minister’s preferred option is now allowing foreign buyers to invest in not just large-scale build-to-rent housing, but any residential land, if they intend to develop even one house on it.

There’s also a big legal warning: if they do this, it can’t be undone.

This Landlord loving, renter hating Government who have already given Landlords their tax loop holes back and the right to evict are looking to allow their foreign landlord mates access to NZ’s residential market even if they only build one house AND once National do it, it can never be undone!

Allowing foreign landlords to exploit NZs desperate rental market vs the selfish and nasty Boomer landlords who dominate the market now?

It’s so hard for renters because we want them both to die in their battle over who controls us, foreign landlords or selfish domestic Boomers.

Regardless, it’s another tricky move by National as they desperately attempt to use extreme free market tools to fix problems caused by extreme free market tools.

There is a class war against renters and we don’t have the political vocabulary to debate it because despite the Real Estate Pimps having donating millions to the Right, the mainstream media never hold the Real Estate Pimps or their political proxies to account.

There is an unspoken promise between the neoliberal State and the untaxed capital gains private landlord class that the neoliberal State never builds enough State Houses to alleviate housing desperation so that the untaxed capital gains private landlord class can exploit that housing desperation ON TOP OF getting a $1.5Billion annual subsidy in the form of the Accommodation Allowance EVERY SINGLE YEAR!

So the neoliberal State work hand in glove with the interests of the untaxed capital gains private landlord class to constantly keep desperation in the Housing market by never building enough State Houses WHILE handing taxpayer funded subsidies to the untaxed capital gains private landlord class!

This rigged casino where Landlords can constantly use their own debt to buy more property and out leverage first time home buyers just adds insult to injury.

The Housing Crisis is a political decision and you as renters should be incandescent with rage at how this has been allowed to continue!

The Māori Party Ghost House Tax would spike those landlords hard.

  1. “if they do this, it can’t be undone.”
This is only true under the saitanic neoliberal orthodoxy of Labour/National.

Those who would invest under these conditions know they’re evil.

We have every right to take everything from them.

  2. National did it last time, sold state housing and land and homes why do dumb dumbs continue to vote for this lot.

  3. Real estate pimp and land speculator lobbyists have clearly been swiping that beehive card relentlessly.
They are desperate to get the overseas buyers in to keep the land ponzi going.

  4. So NZ started as a place where working people could escape the class system in Europe (mainly the UK) & own their own home but National are working as fast as possible to make us all slaves again? That is the only rational conclusion I can get from the leaked documents & while I do not usually like Mr Peters if he can destroy this proposal I will have a slightly better opinion of him.

  5. Basically, Christopher wants policies to re-live the 1990’s, David the 1980’s, and Winston the early 60’s. As Bonnie suggested, let’s hope on this occasion, the idea of foreigners grabbing our assets can move Winston to effectively veto it.
