Of course Luxon is chickening out of having a replacement debate because Chippy smashed the bejesus out of Luxon in the last debate with Paddy Gower!
You know National are frightened because 30 year old burn out Rageaholic Chris Bishop is lying through his teeth…

…why lie and pretend National weren’t the hold outs when the debate moderators, Stuff, are very clear that’s exactly what happened?
As more media attention on National’s disastrous policy platform keep getting asked and the spectre of Winston and ACT running everything overshadows National’s certainty, Luxon wants less scrutiny, not more!

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

Luxon is like the Aesop fable of the goose that laid golden eggs, and it’s what Luxon wants supporters to believe, which is why he doesn’t want supporters to see through his scam, which is why he is going in the oposite direction, running away from the debate instead of towards it, and when his supporters finally catch up to him, and stand below him looking upwards in eager anticipation of having that golden egg laid upon them, they will receive something much more familiar, much more brown and pungent from Luxons rear end, than they were hoping for. He’s peaked in his polling, and is coming back down, and his latest tax package gaffs, show the truism to the say about, giving a man enough rope…
Yes…and i see that Amelia Wade from Newshub TV3 has come out and stated something to the effect that in14 years of journalism she has never seen such evasiveness and deception in that National are blaming and/ or attacking journalists for asking questions about critical matters that require proof of evidence instead of being upfront and providing factual based answers….
There will be more to come on this in the coming days…
Yes … National has peaked and is on the way down….
The momentum has shifted…hence the panic being witnessed by Naational and Act.
Labour up 1.5 points in the latest Curia poll…
Yes grant up 1.5 and chippy’s been in isolation no isolation I think we would be closer to 30%. I’ve been offering some of my disengaged young whanau kfc and it’s working.
lolz
Why in a position of strength does Luxon have to concede? It would never happen if the roles were reversed.
It was up to Labour to provide an option that was palatable to National. It would have been great to see Kelvin for an hour-or-so debating the policies of Labour – he is deputy leader after all.
Frank, I expect better from you. Kelvin was deputy under J Ardern, not under C Hipkins. Get your accusations right.
At least he wasn’t out “spreading” the message like Hipkins.
Helen – that is what he should be doing. Luxon is a puffed up buffont with no policy except to reverse progressive policies of the current administration and to cut taxes for those who don’t really need it – and to borrow to achieve this (unless he plans public service cuts he doesn’t want to reveal knowing this will be too politically damaging). The way he and those of his ilk treat beneficiaries is also a disgrace.
The only upside is that a coalition of Luxon, Seymour and Peters is mouthwatering in terms of entertainment and almost certainly will guarantee a one term right wing government – Horay!!!
Mind you, Hipkins was doing his best to remind everyone that Covid-19 is still a thing.
??????FFS

Everybody knows Luxon is shit but Labour has become such a toxic brand that is doesn’t matter how shit he is or how bad National are going to be.
No jack, you’ve got it wrong about how shit Luxton is or how bad National are going to be. A good many folk are on to Luxton now and see him for what he is: headhunted some years back from senior management to serve the interests of the private sector. A bloody good choice if you’re on that side but not so good for others. Not unless you’re a big fan of neoliberalism and believe in the fallacy of trickle down. Or simply want to feather your own nest with the Nat’s promises.
But you’re right about the toxicity of the Labour brand. Someone on TDB provided 10 reasons a while back. I had a meal with a long time Labour supporter a few days a go and heard of just two of the reasons she wasn’t voting red: her belief that Labour had sold out to co-governance and Labour’s position on transgender issues. That I thought pretty much sums it up for many. Didn’t dare ask who she intended voting for.
But don’t be fooled. Luxton is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. No disrespect. He’s probably a decent enough chap but one with a not-so-hidden agenda.
The debates are interesting for us political trainspotters but are largely irrelevant this election.
The country wants a change of direction, Luxon could dissect a Kakapo live on air and it won’t move the polls much – Labour are to be voted out, not Luxon in.
Well it wouldn’t be a “Leaders’ Debate” if Chippie doesn’t show. I guess if Kelvin fills in it would be as a proxy for Chippie? Or would Chippie disavow Kelvin? The fact is if Chippie isn’t there we don’t really get an insight into the mind of Chippie, which is the entire point of a leaders’ debate (otherwise why have it in the first place)? We can have endless “Party Debates”, but that isn’t what this is supposed to be imo.
Klaus Schwab’s younger brother says it all
Luxon is too taken up in his “laser-sharp focus on delivery” to be bothered with silly debates and elections. He wants to talk about “outcomes”. Didn’t you know he was a great CEO of a quasi-monopoly airline?
Two possibilities come to mind:
1.) Luxon is too stupid to know that the whole substance of democracy is an argument about what should be delivered and what the outcomes should be, and therefore debate is central to it, or:
2.) He understands point 1 perfectly well, but wants to make it appear that the outcomes he prefers are the only possible ones and ‘there is no alternative’ to neoliberal, crony capitalism and speculative self-enrichment.
I haven’t decided which one it is yet. I suspect he’s neither smart enough nor self-aware enough for it to be no.2
