Gus then received an appointment with a specialist contracted by the hospital last week.
The doctor confirmed the wait could be up to eight months but offered their services privately at a reduced cost, he said.
The family would have the tumour removed privately so his stepson does not “suffer any more”, acknowledging they are in a “privileged position” to do so.
Asked how he felt having to go to these lengths to be seen and treated, Gus replied: “You feel like a second-hand citizen”.
“I do acknowledge that these people [doctors] have it difficult, because they work in a system that is broken.
“Those circumstances forced me to fight the same system that thousands of New Zealanders fight each and every week.”
Te Whatu Ora Bay of Plenty acting group director of operations Sarah Mitchell said they were unable to comment on individual cases.

This sounds good. Which of the native trees are going to be allocated for use, and how are they going to be surrounded and divided by fire-diminishing species? Where are the watchtowers going to be built where people helped by tech will keep a 24 hour/365 eye and nose on this precious taonga? Also there can be species planted strategically that can be coppiced or pollarded,* that would be wise.
The same old procedures and plans touted for the 20th century have to be updated. We now have a country prone to dumps of rain and slips, unusual dry spells with fires starting from natural causes as well as from hapless, fickle people. The planners can’t afford to be the same.

I suggest we don’t get involved with space; We are drawn to them as mystical artefacts, also the tubular shape of the ships is probably a phallic symbol. And the constant competition not to get caught with one’s missiles down will be wearing on us peeps. We will probably end up living permanently in dug-out caves a bit like Oz opal miners, or Turkey’s. It’s quaint when others are doing it.
We can’t provide for the ordinary needs of people living here in the country right now. Nat-Ackack will just have us crying into our glasses; we won’t afford beer and be forced to resort to our own tears, slightly salty, as regular water will be polluted with crypto-something. Don’t make us suffer with the worst scenario!

..This was the first time anyone had heard about the need for repairs at Moa Point. All the information should have been included in the public messages sent via Facebook and Twitter.
And also: Wellington Water did not say how long the discharge had lasted. An hour? A day? Is it continuing?
Yesterday afternoon there was another discharge of untreated sewage – this time into the harbour near the interislander ferry terminal…
