Kaimai Quiz Night: Team dressed in KKK costumes apologises to Settlers Committee

The quiz team who dressed as Ku Klux Klan members have apologised to the organisation that hosted the event, but are still being urged to apologise publicly.

The men had apologised to the Kaimai Settlers Committee for turning up to the quiz night on Saturday dressed in the costumes.

The committee has come under fire for not taking action when the group first showed up at the fundraiser event in the Bay of Plenty town of Kaimai, west of Tauranga.

The Kaimai Settlers Committee said it regretted that it didn’t ask the team to leave or remove their offensive costumes.

Look.

There is some bizarre attempt to justify the wearing of these KKK robes as some type of ‘ignorance’ on the behalf of those wearing the robes.

Bullshit.

They didn’t remove the hoods once, because they knew (by the appalled response of everyone else) how offensive their provocation was.

One of them had a petrol can as a prop.

They knew.

However, EVEN IF THEY ARE SIMPLY IGNORANT, fuck ’em!

44 years ago, Hone Harawira led a group of activists to beat the living snot out of educate some ignorant pakeha Engineering students who were mocking the Haka as part of a Capping Stunt.

In these confusing times, it’s important for Nazis and White Supremacists to understand decent New Zealanders will not allow them to parade their hatred in public.

If you are a decent New Zealander who witnesses Nazis or White Supremacists under the misperception that their toxic bile is allowed in public, then call you local Antifa or take matters into your own hands by filming them and demanding their names and identities.

There can be no negotiation with the KKK, just like there can be no negotiation with Nazis, just like there can be no negotiation with cancer.

So say all of us.

  1. Look, there are no Nazis or KKK in New Zealand and certainly not in Kaimai.
And even if there were they certainly wouldn’t be rocking up to quiz nights or Posie Parker rallies.
What are portrayed as Nazis or the KKK in New Zealand are either misguided lads having a laugh or people who have social disorders.
Any real Nazis that found their way to New Zealand will be toothless old fossils clutching their colostomy bags.
Misnaming these people just minimizes the horror of actual Nazis and THE KKK.
In any case who decides who gets on the list? Today Nazis and the KKK, tomorrow- transphobes, The Tax Payers Union and anybody who doesn’t speak te reo?

    • Being called a racist in this country is just about the worst thing you can call someone.
Flinging around accusations for every perceived micro aggression both diminishes the actual meaning of racism and amplifies woke virtue signalling in an ever increasing outrage olympics.
You appear to be guilty on both counts.

  2. These fuckers should have been denied entry to the venue, bollocked and sent packing.

Sure maybe not too many expect a confrontation at a Quiz night, but a “Settlers Committee” is perhaps not going to be that far removed from the orbit of KKK sentiments is it? Correct me if I am wrong but it is an overwhelmingly white area, and it is to their shame they did not deal with this more forthrightly on the night rather than make grudging apologies later.

  3. Martyn its easier to date your cousin when they are disguised in a cloak and hood. Takes the guilt away. I can almost hear the banjos from here.

  4. Martyn, you came out swinging when Ian Powell defended stoutly the “democracy of the street” in relation to the violence meted out to supporters of Posie Parker’s “Let Women Speak” event.

    Have you changed your mind?

    • Agree. The KKK are not slightly humorous not even with irony thrown in It is an insult to all ordinary people and particularly to the USA itself which should feel ashamed every time it surfaces. That country is guilty of raising itself too high in its estimation, and therefore the fall is harder and deeper. It But it actually can’t be linked with black-facing as similar, as I did, but is really disgraceful and abhorrent; black-facing is just, at this time, insensitive and ignorant.
