Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

Here is an example of gummint’s naive or mendacious (don’t know which) behaviour of free market. pants down to all with ideas that help our balance sheet or profit and loss a/c (check with accountant) leads to. In order to appear as if we are, if not a spry economy (not lethargic at all. no!), at least a sentient one we have brought in measures such as shooting ourselves in the foot in order to disguise the cancer that eats us up from inside!

Neolib-freemarket opens us up to expensive battles with private enterprise when we try to do something that is good for the country and people, thinking mid term, but gets in the way of certain speculation certainly. Wiser heads than those found in the steam-room of Growth and Profit Corpse did not prevail.

Last words from GBShaw: ” Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.”
also “I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.” and

  2. Couldn’t resist another quote. Truly, hasn’t everything we need to know and think and do already been done? It’s all out there waiting for us to take note learn choose the good and fair, and implement. Better do it now though, like, this year, to listen to the earnest committees and experts and truly act not Axe, before we get wiped out by climate or volcano! What a waste of good quotes!

  3. This is a great cover of the situation on the South Island West Coast – an excellent RNZ report on 9 to Noon from newspaper reporter in Westport – Around the Motu. Listen 8mins…

Also look at the interesting case about Nelson bringing government to task with reparation of land, for not standing by its Tenths surety. (Remember this word ‘Tenths’, it is an example of Maori and NZ colonial government co-operating and making that firm and legal. But that was breached by governing authorities around the motu, unhappily.)

  4. More hilarity at The Standard.
After an outage caused by a technical glitch, The Standard site admin Lyn Prentice asked commenters what conspiracy theories were being put about for his site’s outage.

I’ve found John Wyndham’s books quite prescient about future trends.
The plot concerns a young female biochemist who discovers that a chemical extracted from an unusual strain of lichen can be used to slow down the ageing process, enabling people to live to around 200–300 years. Wyndham speculates how society would deal with this prospect.

…“Mica, in particular, is a kind of shiny material that we put in a lot of blushers and bronzers and that kind of thing. In that industry, very little children work to create mines, and then they mine the mica out of those mines. They’re really risky when they are unregulated, so there was a real crackdown on mica a couple of years ago in 2016, around 12 children died in mine collapses…
…“You can see that brands like L’Oreal, Lancome, they have disclosed what raw materials [they’re] using and some of them sign up to particular initiatives like Responsible Mica, for example….

…Palm oil, which is used in moisturisers and a long list of other items, is another problematic product. Armstrong said more than 80 percent of palm oil comes from Indonesia and Malaysia, where children as young as five are used to clear the land with fires and transport the palm kernels, which may have been treated with pesticides.
“New Zealand imports 99 percent of its palm oil from Malaysia and Indonesia, and we imported $726 million of palm oil last year…
