The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. James Shaw admits the Government’s change of tack on the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) will result in people/households paying more.

He says businesses who are putting pollution into the atmosphere will face higher prices, implying that is an incentive for them to switch to greener alternatives.

But as he anticipates costs for households to increase, evidently he knows extra costs put onto businesses are more than likely to be passed on rather than businesses switching to greener alternatives.

The impact of extra emission costs has raised concerns re the competitiveness of our exporters and the implications for the cost of living.

Re the impact on beneficiaries, Shaw says we index income support and Working for Families and so on to the CPI (inflation) so that largely takes care of itself.

    However, Shaw is incorrect.

Since 1 April 2020, payment rates of main benefits are increased in line with average wage growth in the previous year, not CPI growth.

Which brings into question our commitment to the International Just Transition Declaration? Are we living up to it?

    • Green concern about beneficiaries bearing extra costs for climate change improvements is evidenced by example of Eugenie Sage raising costs on council tips sometime in 2019 – I don’t know Maori for months!

I have just bought a 4- pack of 65L rubbish bags for $22 odd at the supermarket. Greens haven’t got even a small concern for the ordinary person – they just revert to puritan authoritarian mode with their ideas for change. Patronising theoretical middle class, we know best all the way.

I am trying to reduce waste but when one buys from the supermarket, stuff in packets, it’s hard. At present I am thinking of self-serve yoghurt machines in food shops that would cut out all those little pottles except a few fancy ones that people would wash and re-use. That would save much. And of course bottles with refund for those who collect and return. And there were the bins overseas that would pay and sing for return of certain types of litter. And think of *Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Morgan Willliams who reported on Curitiba the Brazilian City that got help cleaning up from the many poor, giving them vouchers for eggs etc.

“Resistance is futile” was the trademark statement of the Borg, an amalgamated race of biomechanical beings determined to assimilate every group of humans it encountered. If the targeted population refused to be assimilated, they were simply destroyed and the Borg moved on to its next target.11 Mei 2017

  3. A kids charity group I support phoned for an irregular donation – of course Spark has dropped the 0900 option for donating which makes life more difficult for them. Another service that business has decided is not worth their while to continue. What will they cut off next.

Meantime the pollies get gold-edged toilet paper? What do they do to further their duties to us. What can they do – they have had their hands metaphorically cut off. But wait, they operated on themselves. What a bunch of na-nas -. In London years ago I smiled at the chap with the sandwich board sign saying The End is Nigh. Ha.

    • I get the feeling from many on that site that the important thing is their favourite team winning – not what the party is doing or not. Some decades ago they got confused, lost their way, started following motivational coaches ideas. Then their goals shifted after watching basketball and they thought they should get citizens jumping through hoops. Now they don’t know whether they are Arthur or Martha.
