‘Evolving with its community’: New name for The Dominion Post
Wellington’s daily newspaper, The Dominion Post, has announced it is changing its name, removing the word dominion.
The paper, which was established in 2002 through a merger of The Dominion and The Evening Post is being renamed as The Post.
“As an independently owned New Zealand company, we are under no-one’s dominion. New Zealand’s status as a dominion ended in 1945 when we joined the United Nations. It’s time for the word to go,” editor Caitlin Cherry said.
“We thought carefully about what we wanted The Post to represent now and into the future.”
Ummmm.
Ok.
That’s woke word salad for, “So because Dominion is a state of white cis male patriarchal colonialist mind, the Dominion Post is removing the word Dominion for a woke Wellington audience who are shocked and horrified that such a male orientated word for colonial domination is even allowed within the 04 phone code”.
It’s a woke reinvention and the way Stuff are selling it with a look back through the Mastheads 21 year history, at least is a recognition by the Management team that if the name change is seen as woke washing then not could be a marketing nightmare.
There’s a reason ‘Go Woke, Go Broke’ has resonance and Stuff is already Woke AF now.
I’m less interested in what it’s called, and more interested in you know, journalism.
Castrating their Masthead for Identity Politics reasons sounds like a Today FM level fuck up.
Cherry Caitlin their new editor has just left to ‘pursue other projects’.
After woke washing The Dominion Post, Stuff’s next move is to create woke paywalls for their woke social engineering journalism.
I’m guessing the gravity of Stuff’s debt structure is driving the paywall idea and it makes sense, it’s a smart play for Stuff, the woke are middle class and they want their own cult dogma repeated back to them until someone on Twitter declares that irrefutable woke fact is no longer part of the conclave dialectic, and then that belief is cast aside and never believed in the first place, so they will easily shell out $5 a week for that mantra to be endlessly repeated back into their faces.
Stuff can certainly make money paywalling their woke nonsense because the middle classes love woke nonsense, the incredible bonus to the rest of us is that we don’t have to bother responding to gated opinions because they lose influence.
Woke paywalls mean the rest of us can ignore them and allow the idea to die behind a paywall the way opinion does behind the NZ Herald paywall.
I say let’s get all of those wokies at Stuff behind a paywall!
Shouldn’t you have to pay to read Alison Mau’s 10 millionth column on how shit men are?
Sadly Alison has been demoted to just columnist and won’t be leading her weekly Jihad against heteronormative white cis males which is a shame because she had almost caught all of them.
The danger is that the kind of journalism that Stuff manufactures is for a woke audience who is paying for it and who want their dogma repeated back to them so it becomes a self affirming echo chamber.
That isn’t journalism, that’s just telling people what they want to hear, we ask people to donate to TDB not because you like what we say (trust us, if you love us this week, you’ll be hating us next week), but because you see the need to have an independent media that call it the way it sees it without pandering to readers already established belief systems.
I applaud Stuff going behind a paywall and beg then to put all their columnists behind it so Stuffcan become as irrelevant as the NZ Herald’s Paywall opinion section.
This strategy makes Today FM look successful.
Build that (pay)Wall! Build that (pay)Wall!
We will all miss Alison and Cherry deeply, the way we would if the entire Seven Sharp and The Project production crew were swallowed up by a mini black hole that suddenly appeared.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

All Boucher achieved with the ridiculous masthead change was to underline the fact that the Packer-Fairfax press is a predatory monopolist firm, that gobbled up all of its competitors (as did the Dunn press, and the Fraser-Smith press). Readers can’t go out and buy an opposition newspaper in protest, because there are none.
Nine Entertainment Co., now sans James Packer, thought the newspapers were so worthless that a 100% shareholding of all the local Packer papers was gifted to Boucher for $1.00¢!
Going behind a pay-wall could be a disaster for the website. Although Murdoch had also already decided the country was a complete basket case that wasn’t worth his time any longer, he could quite easily extend News.com.au — the free, national News Corp daily — to cover those markets. He would become the only free electronic daily left, and as the local Packer papers are so hopeless he’d probably take all of their online readership.
Total agreement. Sometimes I read stuff that I shouldn’t. Knowing it’s gonna piss me off. Because it’s there. No way I’d pay for it so stuff will be easing my frustrations by pay walling.
You would be forgiven for thinking Stuff was the Parnell Bureau for Onion TV.
Stuff might need to be a bit more careful who they hire in their woke led agenda.
The teacher and ‘groomer’ Taurapa also worked for Stuff, which said he was hired in July last year as a full-time te reo Māori translator.

The more woke the institution, the more they seem to attract bizarre sexual offenders.
Last week former Massey University journalism lecturer Grant Hannis, 55, was sentenced to eight months home detention for kissing and intimately touching an 82-year-old woman who was trying to get away.

Well said Martyn!
The media both in print and TV are irrelevant today. The last place I’d look for *actual* news is mainstream media. Those in the woke bubble are going to get the shock of their lives in the coming election because the majority of us don’t “attend the ballet” or drink wine & eat canapes in art galleries.
Any chance of getting political parties behind a paywall?
So funny, nice laugh, thanks.!
