How to deal with Kiwis who claim we can’t do anything to stop climate change so shouldn’t lower emissions: Step 1 – Slap the stupid off their face

One of the things that gets me so mad about climate change in New Zealand is that every single time you point to the over whelming data telling us that something off the charts is occurring because human pollution since the Industrial Age has lifted Co2 to levels beyond anything that can happen naturally, like this…

…whenever you point to this data, some fuckwit Kiwi says, ‘Yeah, nah but, NZs contribution to the global emissions is infintzsimile and until you can get China and America and India to agree to cut backs then we can’t possibly be expected to do anything blah blah blah Kiwi Farmers feed the world blah blah blah Kiwi Farmers are the best blah blah blah Fonteera, Fonteera, I love you Fonteera blah blah blah salt of the earth blah blah blah I’ll blow that cow before I cull it blah blah blah.

So here’s how we build in social protocols to help our slower brothers and sisters appreciate how cray shit gets now. because of climate change

Step 1: Slap the stupid off their face.

Not a closed fist now, or the back of your hand, I mean a good old fashioned open handed slap to the face.

Old School.

Step 2: Sympathise how a smack to the chops can be startling and a tad uncomfortable:

No one likes a smack in the chops, but pit out that it is an important technique to gain focus here.

The Planet is melting.

Regardless of whether we do anything or not, the planet is melting. We have to make urgent and radical changes in our foreign policy, economy, politics and society. Taking up more water to grow more fucking cows isn’t a fucking solution to that reality is it moron?

There are mega fires burning in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, British Columbia, SIBERIA, Spain and Chile.

All in the past month.

Siberia holds one and a half trillion tons of carbon and methane in the permafrost, what happens when it burps all that enormous amount of gas into the atmosphere?

We know from the ice record this has happened in the past, 635million year ago and it caused catastrophically abrupt climate change.

We are seeing enormous craters of methane erupting already.

Look what is happening in Turkmenistan

The US is in negotiations with Turkmenistan over an agreement to plug the central Asian nation’s colossal methane leaks.

Turkmenistan was responsible for 184 “super-emitter” events in which the powerful greenhouse gas was released in 2022, the highest number in the world. One caused climate pollution equivalent to the rate of emissions from 67 million cars.

…singular events that produce the pollution of 67million cars?

What happens when these events get triggered?

There is just no plan to adapt to this new reality when it should be the driving force to begin immediate and radical adaptation for what is coming.

We have no comprehension of what is coming and we are simply not prepared for the age of consequences.

Step 3: Point out that Shit is going to get way more cray thanks to vested political interests

Watching National, ACT and Corporate Farmers use their economic and political muscle to avoid responsibility for what comes next can only be resolved by civil unrest and a campaign of civil disobedience against those interests.

We told ourselves climate change was something that might impact guys at the end of this century.

That delusion is dead.

It’s here, faster and harder than we feared.

And it’s only going to get worse.

This is the age of consequences.

So pretending that ‘Our emissions profile means we don’t have to do anything’ denies what the fuck is actually happening doesn’t it?

We need to be focused on domestic food security, not infinite trading on a burning planet!

  1. The local electorate is so brainwashed, dumbed down and submissive that their outlook is more akin to “We can’t do anything to stop… anything”!

  2. By their logic my tax bill is just rounding for the NZ govt so I shouldn’t have to pay it as it makes no difference. IRD seemed a bit anti about that so if anyone can give me tips how to get them to see the light it would be much appreciated.

  3. NZs 0.17% contribution to global climate emissions means that our local angst actions are nothing more than virtue signalling dogma to extract more tax.

Thankfully we live in a temperate zone surrounded by ocean & almost constant wind systems. So, no worries although an extra couple of degC in Wgtn would be welcome.

    • Japan was sold the nuclear silver bullet. With 140 odd million and a complex domestic economy looked a good choice to solve energy needs but the last country on earth that should have gone down that path. Nuclear power and earthquakes, not a good combo Robbie.

        • Agree, probably not ideal for the Shakey Isles but it’s the solution on stable continental land masses where most of the global warming originates.

  4. The greenhouse effect and the global warming ice core evidence has been known about for 40 years. So far the response has been windmills and teslas. The quickest option for massive rejigging to carbon neutral energy supply is nuclear. Is the trade off – nuclear everywhere v climate catastrophe.

  5. If it’s that urgent . Then let’s provide all peeps with gas guzzler cars that have done over 250 km with retail value under 8 k a free trade in option for a 50 k EV.

    Done.

  6. The accompanying graphic to your post, Martyn, strongly suggests you are advocating elder abuse.

    Not really a good look.

Indeed, the whole idea of assaulting people you’re unable to convince strikes me as abhorrent.

Would you have published that graphic if the person getting slapped was Black, or a woman, or a child?

    Ageism – much.

  7. Very interesting. We are all in this together eh. Let’s go Dutch. (I have been reading about Dutch immigrants in NZ – a great read.

I thought this extract told a lot.
Fortunately for the Dutch, they love an argument, and are not easily daunted by conflict. If only their New Zealand friends and relatives felt the same way! Listen to this lament from a New Zealand spouse. “When I first met my husband I used to go with him and sit and listen while he played cards with other Dutch people—bridge, usually. It must have been love, because I couldn’t understand a word of Dutch, and all the magazines around the house were Dutch too.

“I’d watch them as they played. Sometimes one would stand up and abuse his partner at the top of his voice, and then at the end of the evening they’d all be roaring with laughter. I coudn’t work it out. Still can’t, sometimes. It’s taken me years to get used to that….

What this New Zealander is trying to come to terms with is the Dutch sense of humour, which thrives on insult and rebuttal, all acted out as loudly and vigorously as possible. A sensitive Kiwi is likely to get scalded in the process, but the Dutch know it’s good fun, even though they might have just abused your family, called you fat and are about to start on where you live….https://www.nzgeo.com/stories/the-invisible-immigrants/ 1992

I think if we tap into our Dutch neighbours ways and wisdom we might get some useful perspectives, and also have some convivial arguments. Could we try this sort of unusual social/ political discussion with some lively good natured Dutch setting the pace and showing how to manage the hubbub? Someone who knows a likely person/s!?

  8. Assaulting people that don’t share your convoluted view? Wow – Did you not learn that you cannot control what other people say, do or think? Wait – oh…the thought police are here to TELL us what to think…the State controlled media…and you.

    • It’s called “ Pure trans joy” by the religious woke.
The left don’t realize what they have become.
