Councillors surprised by council seeking advice on airport share sale

The news that Auckland Council is already engaging financial advisors in Australia on the yet-to-be-confirmed airport selldown has left some councillors wondering why they weren’t kept in the loop

The irony of the Boomer King privatising Aucklands assets to save his Boomer voters from a rates rise is made more outrageous when considering his Boomer voters don’t care about the sale of those assets because they won’t live long enough to see the damage that will cause!

This is Generational class war being waged but in a very NuZilind passive aggressive manner.

The Boomer King, elected by Boomers via a rigged election process, is going to privatise assets that neither he nor his Boomer voters will be around to see the ramifications of.

The manner in which the lies about how much of a blow out the Council is facing alongside the deceitful way a sale of the Airport is occurring all show a Mayor prepared to sneak a privatisation agenda through while Auckland suffers.

Wayne Brown said he would ‘fix’ Auckland. Turns out he is going to flog it off.

  1. The gutless Supercity Councillors and Community Board Members are really something. Do they not have the ability to exercise independent thought and both tell the Mayor to sod off and vote him down?

As I have said before here, Browny, Steinie in hand, used to pick Councillors off one by one in the Far North until he had the numbers to sack staff, sell off pensioner housing and transfer the rating burden from Commercial/farming to residential.

The neo liberal era is marked above all by an Admin/Consultative culture. If a report that rips ratepayer funds has say Price Waterhouse on the front cover it is “gold”. These global consultants are parasites with massive conflicts of interest as they are for profit enterprises loyal to private capital not citizens or democratic participation.

    • That would require critical thinking J A BARK and those clearly with very little intellect would ask ” why”?

  2. Very disappointing – there seems to be a lot of rot at the council with hand outs everywhere that should not be council priorities and too many staff including lawyers and consultants, and addressing that should be the first priority before selling assets.

One of the many hand outs was teaching refugees to drive for example paid by a council grant. This is the sort of thing that volunteers used to do, or central government should provide for. Not rate payers. It is even worse because NZ youth don’t get free driving lessons from the council and refugees are already first in line for housing and health care and a free education that NZ youth don’t generally get.

  3. The labour movement needs to develop a strategy to engage working people at the local elections. Local councillors will likely form the basis of a new left-wing party (now that no such party exists). And there is no shortage of political issues given how corrupt (and out of touch) the local councils appear to be.

  4. Plus …

If you really want an informed and relevant discussion of the valid issues you present, then I think your site would benefit from greater attention to concentrated discussion, rather than flitting from one post to the next.

  5. The lag between commenting and posting is not encouraging of true discussion. This design makes me less inclined to engage.

  6. I don’t like Wayne Brown at all, but I think you need to chill off on your berating of boomers. Many of us are not at all like you sometimes personify us.
