When there is hard yakker to do, most of today’s Councils have contracted out and have no setup with sufficient machinery or regular, reliable workers to call on. It’s all been privatised, contracted out, and you can’t push heavy mud into a pile with pens. Perhaps we will develop a modern team of work ‘horses’ – getting battery driven motorised bikes with hubs chained to a useful piece of heavy equipment. Power needed will be stated in Bikepower 2000 volts? rather than 10 horsepower.
I’ve been reading about early 1900s Scotland and how great the Clydesdales were to work with, much better than the modern alternative. But everyone is under so much compunction to be modern now. That’s led to vape batteries as big as a thumb starting fires in rubbish trucks. However to paraphrase a rousing song by Flanders and Swann ‘It all makes work for the ‘ratepayer’ to do.’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8X8IlrTy50
Looks ngarly to me – oops Freudian slip.
