It’s not called the “land of the long, white cloud” for nothing. Pristine, luxuriant acres and acres of greenery, lush valleys and bushes, forests, virgin trails and paths…this is how New Zealand will be forever etched in one’s memory, thanks to the chartbuster movie “The Hobbit” (a prequel of sorts to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy).
Fiction holds parallelism to reality. In this instant, the breathtakingly, unbelievably beautiful, unsullied and unspoiled reality that is “Aotearoa” is the complete reverse of many sophisticated but congested concrete jungles in a different hemisphere.
What makes New Zealand the next best venue for Mearth’s territorial expansion? It’s close to home and definitely close to Mearth’s heart.
Top-of-mind, New Zealand likewise has a youthful, energetic vibe that fits perfectly the profile of active, ambitious, achievement-driven individuals, many of whom are also owners and riders of personal mobility devices popularly known as electric scooters.
According to research firm PriceSpy, the popularity and preference for electric scooters in New Zealand is riding high above electric bikes. It showed that the shopping category for e-scooters alone grew 27 per cent in the year between December 1, 2018, to January 29, 2019, and later, on December 1, 2019, to January 29, 2020.
In addition, Kiwis clicked on e-scooters 86 per cent more often than e-bikes on the price and product comparison site. Today, the numbers are still rising.
PriceSpy also revealed that the price points for an e-scooter range between $689 and $2299. Not expensive, fairly reasonable. And that’s good.
New Zealand country manager for PriceSpy Liisa Matinvesi-Bassett shared that the possibility why e-scooters were more popular among Kiwis is because they were cheaper than e-bikes, whose price range is between $2799.99 to $5499.99.
Electric Scooter Shop owner Leonard mentioned that riding an e-scooter was just about a normal activity there is, and it’s not even ‘weird for grown-ups’ to ride it. He also added that “Our experience is that e-scooters are the way ahead – more packable, portable, similar sort of money for a half-decent one…and for $2500, you can buy a decent e-scooter. At $3500, you can really get a high-end e-scooter.”
Today, there are many electric Scooters in Auckland and in Wellington. The electric scooter phenomenon is actively emerging at a fast pace in New Zealand. Adults, male or female, are taking in their motorhomes and caravans electric scooters. There are even e-scooters for seniors which they like to ride, to explore the country’s trails and coastal areas.
Customers like the idea that they can store an e-scooter at their place and leave their car at home, for a quick weekend escape. Or even go on a holiday. The newfound freedom that the electric scooter provides to riders are tempting trade offs to taking the car.
What about those living outside of the city? Yes, they too, prefer a more powerful electric scooter to a car. This is where Mearth’s GTS EVO Series 2023 on-and-off-road heavy-duty e-scooters come in. Dubbed as off-terrain champions, they are really smooth and powerful, perfect for exploring the wilder, less trodden, undiscovered trails of New Zealand.
These earlier developments have been very encouraging for the renowned, top-performing Australian electric scooter brand Mearth, whose sights ventured in Aotearoa to expand territorial reach and serve the needs of a growing and dynamic market.
In the know, experienced electric scooter riders demand high performance, powerful electric scooters that can go really fast, without violating road rules in New Zealand. Seniors alike are not much different when it comes to discovering leisure trips. The cost of maintaining one is but a drop in the bucket – it does not poke a hole in one’s pocket. The idea of not having parking space a problem is a good win.
