The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. I am enjoying a Terry Pratchett version of the economic system in his book Making Money. I’ll put up a few titbits. Moist von Lipwig the hero rogue has of course a suitable heroine discussed here: [she] ‘could move like a snake trying to sashay, and the severe, tight and ostensibly modest dresses she wore left everything to the imagination, which is much more inflammatory than leaving nothing. Speculation is always more interesting than facts.’

That’s about the sexiest part in the whole book which is based on the idea that gold is (can be, might be) sexier than the real thing. And told in Pratchett-speak that, plus carefully contrived risk-taking, turns out to be the case.

    And on rogues:
“They were indeed what was known as ‘old money’, which meant that it had been made so long ago that the black deeds which had originally filled the coffers were now historically irrelevant. Funny, that: a brigand for a father was something you kept quiet about, but a slave-taking pirate for a great-great-great-grandfather was something to boast of over the port. Time turned the evil bastards into rogues, and rogue was a word with a twinkle in its eye and nothing to be ashamed of.”

Israel could attack Iranian nuclear sites in two or three years, its defence minister has said, in unusually explicit comments about a possible timeline.
With international efforts to renew a 2015 nuclear deal having stalled, the Iranians have ramped up uranium enrichment, a process with civilian uses that can also eventually yield fuel for nuclear bombs – though they deny having any such design…

Israel – Can’t the Jews get their state in order now they have one? Haven’t they had enough time for an intelligent and practical people to get a lasting peace with defence, a reality? Have they created their own yeshimon* when they should have peace and plenty? Surely the majority of people in Israel don’t want to live in a place of hyper-aggression, vicious retaliation to every perceived hurt, and self-imposed stress damage, with constant opening up of old wounds. May they heal, with the scars remaining, to remind them and the rest of the world about their past sorrows.

  4. Retired people should not be pushed to the side and all their skills lost, and their sense of purpose and importance. It’s not easy being grey to paraphrase Kermit the Frog. Marilyn Waring of National had the right idea about unpaid work decades ago but the smart alecs and ignoramuses with rusty brains in Wellington couldn’t absorb her ideas.
She was thinking about women mainly but the ideas can be universal as far as age is concerned.

9/08/2018 — The national policy is to not charge anyone who needs help for any search and rescue, whether they are Kiwis or from overseas.

We have a tradition or firm commitment to not charging the wandering willies and careless charlies and unfortunates who are vulnerable in need of help. They have time off from their work and can afford to travel to their favoured spot of venture. Meanwhile people who have no time or money to spare to go away from homes they don’t even have certainty of residence in, and have to be helped with food gifts and charity to enable them to live another ordinary day. What are we on about? Tourists are encouraged to come here on outdoor activities and there should be an insurance fund they are charged on entry which goes to fund whatever difficulties they get involved in.

Dec.19/22 “Over the last 12 months, we have moved away from collective public health messaging to messaging COVID as a matter of individual responsibility.
“A major component of the Government response at the beginning of the pandemic was the communication of collective public health measures.

“We need to communicate these again. Not just urging individual caution – but a concerted public health push.
“Of course, the measures we ask people to follow will be different to what they were in 2020 but we need to get back to clear public health messaging that makes clear that we have to work together to protect those around us.
“Over the last week alone, 42,740 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the community…

It is said that a change is as good as a rest. If the pollies don’t want to accept responsibility
for showing encouragement for people to even wear masks, without making it compulsory, then I think that the comparison between their feckless erratic work practices contrasts sharply with that of the medical profession. It seems that these are the superior managers in the NZ polity, and I think that the MPs and their sickopants [sic] should exchange places now starting from the 1st of January.

Just for a week and let the medical staff have a paid break while the pollies et al stick their noses or some other protuberance in the hole in the dyke that allows the heightened numbers of Covid Mach186A? in. Now that is just a notional thing that will never happen, but it would be worthwhile – ‘walking a mile in my shoes’ sort of thing.

  7. Did you see the huge cruise ship in Lyttelton one among a number coming to Christchurch to swarm over the place like frantic ants. Recently the authorities stopped a tourist boat from being in Milford Sound? because it had snails in its underwater parts. They had to go off coast and clean them off there.

    Dec.28/22 https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/130873337/massive-cruise-ship-brings-thousands-of-visitors-to-christchurch–and-this-time-shops-were-open
    Oct/22 https://www.odt.co.nz/star-news/star-christchurch/lyttelton-welcomes-first-cruise-ship-rebuilt-terminal

But thinking about ants – I see that yellow crazy ants are in Australia and usually come in through ports. As we have tourists swarming, using our systems – buses etc, and bringing covid, it will only be a matter of time before we get these ants here also. Pollies can’t act to prevent ratshit weeds and insects coming to NZ as they have tied a knot in the blood supply that goes to their heads, and those of their administrative arms.

Here’s what we’ll get with the yellow ants. Glance down to the short video/s – very informative.
