Ovchinnikova, who has lived in New Zealand for 10 years, has now raised 1.5 million Russian rubles (about NZ$43,000) and bought gun sights, machine gun mufflers and even drones…..

Ovchinnikova said it did not worry her if the gear she raised money for went to units that were killing civilians, because she believes they are Nazis, and she couldn’t control what the units were doing in Ukraine…..

In the posts, the Auckland woman often calls Ukrainian soldiers “pigs” and uses other dehumanising language – for example, repeating the Kremlin’s lie that Ukrainians are Nazis….

  1. Not sure who James Halpin is but he certainly isn’t a journalist when he calls someone a liar in a report. It follows that this isn’t a report and Stuff is not journalism.

    • I didn’t know who James Helpin was either, but a quick google search revealed that James Helpin is a crime reporter. So yes James Helpin is a journalist.
      My guess is that James Halpin covered this story probably after a complaint was laid with the police.
      In his report James Helpin didn’t ‘call someone a liar’.

      This what he wrote:

      It is dehumanising to label people with a hateful name. Calling someone or a group of people nazis, is designed to dehumanise them.

      The purpose is to legitimise any aggression or atrocity committed against them.

      Using a tiny minority to slander a whole people is the same technique used by the Zionists to dehumanise Palestinians, to justify any atrocity committed against them. Slamming missiles into apartment buildings or the descration of murdered journalist’s funeral can come to be seen as justified even reasonable, that is if you can label people as fascists or terrorists or whatever hateful label you care to put on them to dehumanise them.

      The newly re-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin both use this technique.

      The original nazis used exactly the same technique to dehumaise the Jews publising and sensationalising a notorious case of child sexual abuse to demonise all people of Jewish faith as degenerates and deviants to justify the holocaust.

      That’s exactly what it is.

      The Kremlin have used the fact that some Ukrainian Asov Battalion members sport transgressive nazi style tattoos and emblems,to slander the whole nation as being run by slavering nazis and fascists, with concentration camps and gas chambers, who are massing on the border to attack Russia. The fact is Ukraine society is more liberal more freer and more democratic than the Russian Federation under Putin.

      When determining who is or isn’t a fascist, it is not what they wear. But what they do.

  2. The Ukraine has a population of 40 million. I doubt if anyone believes there are 40 million Ukranian NAZIs, not even Comrade Putin.

      • President Volodymyr Zelensky is a native Russian speaker, Zelensky learnt to speak Ukrainian at school. But Putin calls him a nazi.
        Odessa is a Russian speaking city, but Putin sends missiles into apartment buildings and power and water utilities. According to Putin they must all be nazis too.
        Racism is stupid.
        It doesn’t make any sense.
        Racism and bigotry have never made any sense, except as an excuse for slavery and oppression.

  3. In this country, a Russian woman can openly raise funds to purchase weapons to attack Ukrainians in the illegal annexation under UN law of Ukrainian territory by Russia. And is allowed to get away with it.
    In this country, any Palestinian individual, or Palestinian support organisation, that dared to try to raise funds to purchase weapons to defend Palestinians against attack in the illegal annexation under UN law of Palestinian territory by Israel, would be arrested and charged as a terrorist.
