1 year on from the fall of Western Occupation in Afghanistan

The panicked collapse of the Afghan Government last year has led to vast restrictions of funds to the interim Taliban Government that has resulted in a loss of 75% of their revenue.

This has plunged civil society into a desperate mass famine event where hospitals and schools collapse.

America and its occupier force allies, New Zealand included, has cut aid and frozen Afghan bank accounts. We have collectively decided to make 38million people starve to punish hundreds of thousands of Taliban.

Don’t get me wrong, I have zero time for religion and even less time for a bastardized Hill Billy mutation of 7th Century Islam and while I don’t and won’t justify the abuses the Taliban have committed to date, I find it an hypocrisy beyond hypocrisy that the West feels like it can criticise the Taliban’s violence and repression of women after a disastrous 20 year war especially when you compare  America’s invasion of Kabul with the Talibans!

When America invaded Kabul, they fucking flattened it with bombs and then went on an arrest rampage where as many as 30% of everyone arrested was tortured by the Americans!

So sure, the Taliban have been violent and repressive, but they haven’t bombed Kabul flat and they haven’t tortured thousands of people like the Americans did!

For 20 years, we helped bomb a Bronze Age culture back to the Stone Age and called that progress.

We destroyed, tortured and radicalized the Taliban from a force of 11 000 when we invaded in 2001 to 200 000 now.

Turns out that every wedding party we bombed created 1000 new recruits.

Just because we’ve been defeated doesn’t mean our obligations stop, we have an obligation as the invader and occupier to help rebuild what we bombed and in doing so hope we have some leverage to call on the Taliban to protect women from the harshest excesses of Islam, you know like the way we always do with the Saudi’s.

That was funny because we never tell the Saudi’s anything.

We also, whether we like it or not, have obligations to the enormous human tide of refugees.

Not just those who worked and helped us during our occupation, (the fact that so many of them have been left to fend for themselves is outrageous), no we owe them PLUS another 1000 on top those numbers.

Why?

BECAUSE WE INVADED AND OCCUPIED  ANOTHER COUNTRY WHILE COMMITTING TERRIBLE VIOLENCE!

We don’t just get to brutally prop up a corrupt regime and then wipe our hands clean once we’ve been defeated!

We must pay them more reparations, take in all those who helped us PLUS 1000 refugees from a nation we mutilated.

That’s the price of our tragic military misadventure and may the cost make NZers wince so that when the war bugle gets blown again by our military industrial complex buddies, muddle Nu Zilind recoils in horror at their taxes already paying for the refugees from our last foreign policy blunder!

Look, we have an obligation to raise funds to rebuild Afghanistan and take thousands in refugees, but this hypocrisy that we can lecture a people we damaged and occupied when our own invasion 20 years was far more brutal is the type of hypocrisy that undermines any high ground.

  1. The Afghans (or enough of them at least) have chosen the Taliban over civilization and the West has already invested enough in that cursed country.
The West just needs to leave the Muslim world alone and leave them to it.

    • The mistake the collective ‘we’ (our team of 5 million with differing demographic ‘crews’) always seem to make is – just like all those Mearies – that the ‘we see the Taliban as some sort of collective group with a common agenda. They’re factional, tribal, mysogenist, and all with their own various agendas. Perhaps the only thing they have in common is that they’re primo bullshit artists.
We’re now reaping what we’ve sown – so be it, but don’t expect me to be ‘in tune’, or “on the same page” with the response to all the crap we’re about to face. It’s probably going to have to be pragmatic if ‘we’ want to survive it. And it’ll probably be, once again, that might is right.
We really do need better muppets in the political and administrative classes.

    • Bahahahahaha the western ideology of Liberal democracies have brought nothing but death and destruction to Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, Palestine, Egypt, to name but a few!! Noticeable is that most of these countries targeted for democracy are POC and they sit on tones of Oil, rare minerals etc…??

    • Mana Motuhake is the only way.
Globalisation kills nations and their borders.

Keep the tauiwi out along with their corrupt ideologies.

  2. Indeed. Whatever bad things one may say are happening in Afghanistan, the blood is not on the hands of the Taliban, but on the ‘west’- and not just the Americans and their puppeteers, but our own country. Just look at the Operation Burnham massacre, where the slaughter of numerous Afghan civilians by the NZSAS for sport was cravenly covered up in an official inquiry.

      • On a purely national level- the political leaders responsible for the war crimes committed against the Afghan people need to be tried for the crimes they enabled- from Clark to Key to Jacinda. Also, the top military leadership, who knew very well exactly what they were doing.

I see no reason that regular soldiers and junior officers should be tried for crimes committed, unless they still defend NZ’s role in Afghanistan as having had good intentions- indeed they should be supported and listened to, a lot more than is the case at present.

Suicide has killed more than ten times as many Australian veterans of the war against the Afghan people as the Afghan freedom fighters did. I suspect those numbers are similar for the NZDF, although they’re good at kicking out soldiers at risk of suicide to decrease the embarrassment.

  3. You are correct in identifying the problems with the US however I find it hard to believe that the Taliban Government would do any better in protecting the rights of females & other groups if they had access to their money. I feel that the western powers have a moral responsibility to help but given the current situation there the options to help are limited.

    • Yes I agree Bonnie we have a moral obligation to provide assistance.
      The issue is how?
      Who decides?
The fear is we will fuel a system we don’t agree with however is that for us to decide?

      • and what exactly constitutes a moral obligation? wooly phrase easy to say, impossible to define.

the sad fact and this is damning for the west is that the freest afgan women have ever been was under the soviets….just let that sink in, all the western pissing about the billions poured in, the piles of dead afgans…and the soviets met the so-called ‘moral obligation’ better than we did…just how fucked up is that?

        • A moral obligation is incurred because the Western intervention has made the situation worse for females, while you are happy to credit the Soviets with having the “freest” conditions for Afgan women there are still many reasons for people to not want to live under Soviet control.

          • well bonnie if you read my post you’ll see my entire point is that, the fact afgan women had more freedom under the soviets is a stain on us that we can’t do better not an endorsement of soviet rule..
            ending with
            ‘how fucked up is that?’
couldn’t make it any plainer could I ?

  4. Wow — if the Western World just worked with the Taliban to hand over Osama, and his mates — all this misery, death, and madness could have been prevented…deeply sad for everyone from 9/11 victims, to Afghanistan victims.

  5. After twenty years of war crimes the West hasn’t learnt a thing, just yesterday Ardern looked excited to be giving more weapons and our money to Ukraine to prolong their misery, instead of campaigning for peace. It’s made even more ugly when you see the type of people Ardern and her handlers are supporting

And America and their allies, this incredible beacon of women’s rights, should give Afghanistan back the billions they stole before anyone starts handing the hat around.

  6. We should only accept Afghani refugees who renounce islam, which you refer to as a religion, although might more accurately be described as a cult.

    • Agreed – allowing Muslims into any country that is not already Islamic is cancerous, just look at the problems European countries such as France have been experiencing and will continue to experience.

Also I am at a loss as to why we in the West appear to fall all over ourselves to appease Muslims who decide voluntarily to move here – if I for instance decided to move to Iran and called in a noise complaint on the local Mosque’s Call to Prayer do you honestly think they would give to two shits (which of course they shouldn’t).

    • Oh, you mean more Afghan refugees who practice unislamic traditional Pashtun practices like bacha-bazi, the kind of practices the Taliban (rightly) ends people for? You people who support the illegal occupation of Afghanistan seem to be very focused on promoting child molestation.

      • Mohammed Tom’s comment neither indicated any support for an occupation of Afghanistan or the promotion of any kind of child abuse – if you are going to comment let’s try and make it even remotely relevant to what is being said . .

  7. The Afghan “war on terror” was predicated on 9/11 in which a bunch of Saudis allegedly masterminded a deadly plot on the US mainland

If only we could unravel that then the rest of this awfulness might also start to unravel

    • Thanks for posting this about the ukie Crims/monsters – I was going to do this too. Risk of being called ‘Ivan’ for illuminating unpleasant facts about our darling Ukrainian chums?

    • Neither our PM nor the old fart from the US could identify a woman or define the word women. And you can’t protect rights of people / persons / others if you can’t name them. Sucks to be a vagina haver in Afghanistan.

    • @Ethan thanks so much for that link. It really does change the entire official narrative on Ukraine doesn’t it?
