  1. The god-botherer who organises a daily protest rabble outside our local Four Square is another one of those arseholes who refuse to wear a mask in-store, for all the usual bullshit excuses. Yesterday the bugger walked into the supermarket, unmasked and grinning, bent down to inspect the pizzas, and sneezed all over them. He didn’t even bother to cover his nose or mouth. I expressed my disgust, but the prick had absolutely no insight into his completely unacceptable behaviour, Covid or no Covid. The store has security footage of this (I checked this morning). If there is indeed a god, it would be made public. Disgusted, of Doubtless Bay.

It was 8.30am and the double-decker bus was standing room only, filled with morning commuters riding into the city. As we stood, jammed shoulder to shoulder and swaying with the bus’s motion, I held my palm-sized CO2 monitor close and watched as the number on its digital display rose rapidly.
With no opening windows, the bus had quickly filled with carbon dioxide exhaled from our collective lungs. From a level of 516 parts per million at the bus stop, it took only 20 minutes for CO2 inside the bus to peak at a whopping 5737ppm.

Although high levels of carbon dioxide can be dangerous, there was something I was more worried about. CO2 levels can be used as an indicator of the risk of catching Covid-19; we breathe in air and release CO2 when we exhale. Covid-19 is spread via aerosol particles breathed, coughed or sneezed out by infected people. These can drift several metres and linger in the air for hours.
The higher the CO2 readings, the more virus particles are potentially in the air. I became aware of every cough and sneeze.

I went to a young person/children’s theatre performance the other day and was surprised at the end to see how few people and children and young adults were without masks. Perhaps the middle class think they are above this irritation to their lifestyle,, or that God is watching over them, or that they are too healthy or that only the riff-raff get it.

  3. Bias and prejudice at RNZ in favour of white, red haired women, first Maggie Barry and now Susie Fergusson. What chance do people with other coloured hair have? And when we start elevating black haired people there will always be more of them than red haired or ginjas as they are affectionately known. Please leave Kim Hill alone and not reshuffle her and other staff like a pack of cards. Cards themselves would provoke comment with so many Queens, Kings and Jpkers. What is the world coming to ??

I’m all for prisoner rehab and opportunity. But this pic gives the feeling of middle class patronage and privilege and the teeth, the teeth, are too much, almost sinister. However if they are showing underprivileged mothers how good they could look and their children if they would only clean their teeth regularly and have more water and less sugary muck then all to the good. Follow it up with free toothbrushes – there are some cheapish ones at the supermarket – and simple toothpaste without expensive additives ion it, just ordinary nice tasting stuff in small tubes in two or three flavours free, and a prize and free photo for the best improvement than that would help I think. Bet the government and departments are too mean or want people to jump through hoops set on fire to get them!

  5. This on 3 Waters from John Carter Far North Mayor of long standing(National and the well-known Hoani Carter) – note consultation closes 22 July.
    http://www.johncarter.co.nz/column.htm
…There is just two weeks before submissions close on 22 July and the bill goes to its second reading. The easiest ways to have your say is to make a submission online via the Parliamentary website, or you can email or write to the select committee. Step-by-step guidance on making a submission can be found on the New Zealand Parliament website. It is easier than you might think. You can comment on as much or as little of the proposed bill as you like. You can tell the committee what you like, or don’t like about bill, and you can suggest what you’d prefer instead. However, you can only submit on the Water Services Entities Bill. The committee will not consider wider matters related to the three waters reforms…

  6. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/470736/pakiri-sandmining-protesters-gear-up-for-fresh-fight-with-mccallum-bros
Surely this is UNSUSTAINABLE! How long can you go on sandmining and expect not to affect stability.?
Hundreds have gathered in opposition to two more resource consent renewals filed by sandmining company McCallum Bros, which has been operating off Pakiri Beach for more than 75 years.
And what buildings are being constructed? Financial and management corpse would be biggies here. Our land is being shrunk by foreigners and wealthy money-magnets to facilitate the depleting process. Doh!

  7. Boris and The Washington Post – interesting view.

In his resignation statement Mr Johnson said: “I’ve agreed with Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of our backbench MPs, that the process of choosing that new leader should begin now and the timetable will be announced next week.”
