Jacinda’s Aotearoa New Zealand vs John Key’s Smug Hermit kingdom

Just pause and consider the enormous wins Jacinda has gained on the international stage over the last couple of weeks.

Being invited to speak out against Chinese and Russian aggression at NATO, gun control in America and (as predicted by TDB) an enormous win on 501s and citizenship in Australia.

What was Key’s contribution?

‘Smug Hermit Kingdom’.

All Key managed in 3 terms internationally was putting all our cows in one Beijing paddock which has turned into a geopolitical nightmare, mass immigration, selling out mass surveillance to the NSA, golfing with Obama and doing the top ten list on The Late Show.

Jacinda’s world wide tour of diplomacy has been an enormous success, we should be proud of our Prime Minister and all the influence she has gained for NZ.

It doesn’t matter how you voted or your current political persuasion, the PM has made bold strides on the International stage that are good for NZ. If you are still hating on her despite her success, you may be a tribal right wing Troll who probably needs to get out a bit more.

  1. Time to come home Jacinda, we need you here, gun nuts are roaming the streets, the economy is about to implode and the elderly are living and dying in their cars.

    • They aren’t “gun nuts”, just criminals doing what criminals do, breaking or ignoring the law, to protect their lucrative business interests. Or were you meaning the armed Police officers doing their bit to combat New Zealand’s mental health crisis?

    • Jacinda come home.
Luxon wants to handshake you for what you have done for Aotearoa.
      Don’t leave him hanging.

    • Time to come home Jacinda (BECAUSE YOUR OUR BEST PM EVER, AND YOU’VE ACHEIVED MORE INTERNATIONALLY IN 2 WEEKS THAN NATIONAL DID IN 9 YEARS. TALKS WITH BORIS AND NATO ON GEOPOLITICAL TENSIONS, WHILE LUXON’S CLAIM TO FAME WAS HAVING AIR NZ, REFURBISH TURBINES USED BY THE SAUDI MILITARY TO COMMIT WAR CRIMES IN YEMEN), we need you here (FOR THE SAME REASONS WONDER WOMAN), gun nuts are roaming the streets (THANK GOD YOU STRENGTHENED GUN LAWS AND GOT AUS TO RETHINK 501 POLICY. ALL THATS REMAINING IS TO NOW TREAT THE DRUGS ISSUE AS A HEALTH ISSUE TO COMPLETELY DE-FUND THE GANGS), the economy is about to implode (WHAT PART OF NEAR RECORD LOW UNEMPLOYMENT, WITH SOME ECONOMISTS HEAD SCRATCHINGLY COMPLAINING THAT THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS TOO LOW, AND GETTING THOSE UK AND EU FTA DEALS DONE, DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND,) and the elderly are living and dying in their cars (NATIONAL TALKS THE TALK ON FTA’s AND ELDERLY POLICY, BUT LABOUR WALKS THE WALK. IT WAS NATIONALS MULDOON WHO SCRAPPED FULLY FUNDED SUPER IN THE 70’s, AND BILL ENGLISH WHO SCRAPPED FUNDING THE CULLEN FUND. BOTH DESIGNED TO IMPROVE FINANCIAL SECURITY FOR THE ELDERLY, BUT SWEPT INTO THE WASTEBASKET AS SOON AS NATIONAL GOT THE CHANCE, ALONG WITH THEIR COALITION PARTY ACT, WHICH ACTUALLY HAS SOME OF THOSE VERY GUN NUTS!
Be careful what you wish for!

    • Nothing new. Happened under John Key also. Whole families were living in cars. And by the way how many elderly have died and live in cars? Facts please. Not a stab in the dark.

  2. Ardern and Labour are a busted flush, They had plenty of chances to do the right thing and they blew it

  3. Ardern is hopeless. Key was hopeless. We have useless all talk do bugger all politicians in NZ.

      • Did you ever consider why the housing waiting list is larger now? Key was selling state houses so no rational person would bother to apply for a decreasing number of houses, the current government has been building houses so desperate people see some slim hope of a better housing future so apply.
Overall I have been disappointed with the current government but they are still far better than the opposition would have been.

        • Bullshit. Labours ideology of “we hate landlords” has moved a huge number of private rentals into Airbnb’s and Bookabachs.

Why would owners of housing stock want to deal with laws so geared against them when they can run an Airbnb and not deal with changing tax laws, tenants that wreak homes yet can’t be removed and ongoing changes in compliance? It’s not rocket science why there’s more on the waiting list…oh that’s right it’s all John Key’s fault, because having one person living in a 4 bedroom house on a quarter acre section needed too be moved on. Give me a break

      • key fudged the numbers by changing the rules that removed people from the State housing wait list and made it even harder for people to get on it, at the same time National were turfing out state house tenants from their homes, onto the streets and bulldozed the houses and left land bare.

      • Yes 24 000 on Adherns’ state housing list cause Labour have removed the barriers to being on this list just like the legal aide list more are now eligible for help.

    • That’s right. They are both figurehead frauds .
NZ has had string of them since 1980’s.
      NZ is sunk.
No political party will EVER rescue NZ because they ARE ALL OWNED & paid for.
Ditto NZ media. This is why Martyn B. is just another useless distractor tool, focussing only on the small picture.
Just look at what has happened to NZ since 1980’s. All downward decline in quality of life .
And NZ society has never been more fragmented.
These are truths that good ole Martyn will never discuss.

      • Ingrid. “ …NZ society has never been more fragmented.” Correct. But now it is policy, both official and secret, and a terrible legacy for all our mokopuna.

    • Yup both totally useless and is there realistically any alternative?
We really are left with the choice between different shades of self-centred fucking ineffectual with no hope in sight.
And the All Blacks now suck as well.
Thank god for my beautuful wife and amazing kids otherwise it would all be looking pretty insurmountable.

  4. FFS, John Key was PM 8 bloody years ago, and while you think Jacinda is lauded overseas by everyone she certainly is not. Take those red tinted glasses off for Gods sake.

    • Gary you are right. Key was PM 8 years ago, so he should just sod off and stop sticking his two cents worth in. With such a smarmy face, him talking about smug is just too ironic. Arderns main failing is having too much in common with Key ( being popular is paramount) , though she is way more a statesman than he ever was and at least, in terms of COVID, she took some initially unpopular steps and followed the health advice.

      • Perhaps Helen Clarke should be given the same advise . Jacinda may have listen about advise on covid but her government has not listened to advise about nurses having to wait 2 years for residency 60 out of 67 councils against 3 Waters 480 out of 487 who are against doing away with the children’s commissioner .
She may be popular overseas but the gloss has well and truly come off at home .
Despite her praise of the relationship between the new Australia government and us the 501 will still keep coming

        • Trevor they should be doing more for nursing than just importing Filipino nurses (as good as they are), as Martyn has pointed out. But that has been an issue with successive governments and will continue when Luxon of Nazareth comes in. As for three waters and Councils, gee there is no self interest there at all. Can’t imagine why most councillors would be anti, and it’s nothing to do democracy. Agree the childrens commissioner oversight issue is just plain stupid.

          • I am on record of saying National made a piss poor job of looking after health .I can never understand why any political party does not send on education and health as the opposition cannot complain and there would be few votes lost.
I did ask a Philippine nurse who looked after me did their government mind losing them and she said they are trained so they get jobs overseas and send money home .The young men at taught construction skills for the same idea. We could do the same with a better education system.
Reading your post I bet if we sat down we would agree on more solutions than not but perhaps how we got there would be the differenc6

            • Trevor, Yes, unfortunately Filipino families are fractured with members, including mothers, working all over the world to send money home. They may be nurses or cleaners in Britain or privately exploited there, as they are in Dubai, and the Middle East.

        • Trevor If you’re saying that Helen Clark should stop sticking her two cents worth in like that slimy vulgarian Key does, I couldn’t agree more. They had their time, we had to put up with them then, silence would become both of them now. The world won’t stop if they stop.

  5. In that heading photo of her she looks dishy. I could have been proud of such a NZ leader. It’s sad in reality: ” Ardern and Labour are a busted flush, They had plenty of chances to do the right thing and they blew it ” She grew up in the Neoliberal Rentier ascendancy and knows no different.

    • “ She looks dishy. “ The sort of dish who who would abolish a Commissioner for Children while bewailing child povidy ? The sort of dish who runs away with the spoon while a cat fiddles and the cow jumps over the moon ?

  6. Key ruined NZ, Jacinda doubled down on the ruination. That’s the story. Who would let 200k people get residency even if they cannot speak English or have a long term illness or disability?

  7. um,, your glasses need re-tinting! The trade deal with the UK didn’t cover meat and dairy and with Boris gone is not a done deal yet. Nothing concrete from the Ozzies just a desperate wannabe empty announcement for humane treatment of kiwis after two decades of shitting on us.I really want to believe OZ will do the right thing but I ‘m afraid the truth is that we would be fools to trust them.
Our PM had to make up for time lost due to the pandemic and she did have a lot of ground to cover.
Wether ANY of it will amount to ANYTHING remains to be seen. All she has been doing is her fucking job so I fail to understand why you are being so laudatory.

    • “All she has been doing is her fucking job”

So apparently that’s the criteria for becoming a dame, right?

    • Actually Shona the UK FTA did cover meat and dairy. Welsh farmers are irate about this but because they voted for Brexit, they have no CAP anymore! The EU deal did not cover meat and dairy due to the French and Polish lobby.

  8. Well if nothing else improving British and Austalian residency options for Kiwis will help faciltate colonialist repatriation. Opinions on Three Waters might be more balanced when only the beneficiaries remain.

  9. OK, so she’s better than TraitorKey. Given how pathetic ‘they’ have been (in all but the 50/50 coin toss of closing the borders early rather than not), I’m not sure that’s a reason to vote for her or ANY one EVER AGAIN (who are) in this LINO Govt, BAR the fact in our ‘one party state’ the only other option is NACT.
They (in effect) do basically the same as LINO, but spit in your eye and tell you what a looser you are, rather than smile at you.

  10. Ardern vs Key Era’s – A zero sum game. As an ex lifetime Labour voter, I would even say that at this stage its possible that John Key is coming in as slightly less destructive.

And the X number of $billion question? If Ardern is so influential on the world stage, why has she come back with crumbs from the table from the US, Uk and EU? I dont know if you caught it but when she exited her meeting with Macron prior to the announcement of the EU deal, she looked like she was about to burst into tears.

She is figuratively ‘a pretty little progressive’ with a likeability polling high enough for the old guard to want to be seen with her. Makes them look in touch and progressive to younger voters.

Ardern comes home and we immediately get “Is she walking back on China?” articles in the MSM. Rather than being influential, I think she was soundly used and has come home thinking “Shit, what do I do now?’

    • Fantail your perception is warped. JA came back with a lot more than you give her credit for.

    • She doesn’t know how plus the world stage is better on the cv for her ambition to soon join the UN.

  11. Adern and The Jonk. They’re the same fucking thing. And I use the word ‘thing’ advisedly.
Imagine this? There’s an awesome market garden called Kelmarna Gardens in Herne Bay. It’s great. Lovely. And now imagine this. There’s a man standing at the exit gate taking what you’ve just bought off you. He gives you less for it than what you’ve just paid for it, and then sells it to a foreign country for 100 times more than he forced you to part with it for. I’ve just described AO/NZ’s agricultural primary industry.
    Wake up you dumb shits!

  12. Some will not agree but from my business perspective Key and his government saved Chch after the earthquake .There were mistakes but 11 years on we are starting to get it together .We just need a new stadium to get the city pumping .

    • Saved Christchurch, please explain to the people of Christchurch how in your opinion they did that.

    • ” 11 years on we are starting to get it together ”

      That’s no where good enough.

Nah its no where near being got together , try out East where all the poor destitute people reside.

The Japs had a tsunami as well as a destructive earthquake and they were back up an running very quickly , and the Yanks sorted San Francisco pretty damn fast after the San Andreas quake in 1989.

” Some will not agree but from my business perspective Key and his government saved Chch after the earthquake ”

And that is where everything you said in that statement rules you out on having anything constructive to say apart from not agreeing.

The good people of CHCH were SCREWD legally by that group and their corrupt business perspective and you could be fooled by thinking that this country is run like a banana republic after what happened post 2011 in Christchurch.

I remember a lot of people looking at Key when he flew down here surveying the damage, he did not care about the carnage and destruction only the financial opportunity for his mates to make a quick buck.

One lady observed him wandering around and said you could see the dollar signs in his eyes.

      • Good heavens is that not only untrue but a dreadful take on John Key.
Mat Simpson you are obviously not a supporter of John Key which reduces your comments to political and not objective.
        How’s Megan Woods doing?

    • sorry trev stadia, conference centres and other vanity projects never live up to their promises.. what chch needs is a springfield monorail.

  13. Nothing new. Happened under John Key also. Whole families were living in cars. And by the way how many elderly have died and live in cars? Facts please. Not a stab in the dark.
