I was there for an hour yesterday, did a circuit of Molesworth & Hill streets. Trevor Mallard’s obvious error was to not grant the thing its obvious reality – i.e. that it’s a complete occupation of the area, not simply a fleeting protest by an activist organisation that plays more or less by the same rules as the establishment. The sprinklers and loud music are just dick moves and only bringing everyone down there closer together in the face of adversity. The other thing to note is the interpersonal atmosphere of unity among the participants. It’s a real Maori-Pakeha thing (note: I didn’t see any asians or pasifika). Whatever they believe or know about the system they’re challenging is a hard one to get the head around, you know and fuck there are some dumb shit things I saw pasted up & grafitti’d around the place. But it is a trenchant challenge to this government and they won’t back down. My phone and messenger has lit up with requests from friends to stay while they’re down here for the protest. My FB feed gets filled up with “facists” “arseholes” “eugenics!” etc. Crazy shit, but lifelong friends of mine are present in support of the occupation and I will always afford them the courtesy of refraining from personally labelling them anything.
When is Luxon and Seymore going to address their feral mouth-frothing followers on Parliament grounds. You would have to be hallucinating or stopped taking your medi to be down there. I saw a swastika, hammer and sickle, destiny church, Trump and MAGA signs, Maori party and Mana party flags, Tory minister, and most of all crazy “hate jacinda” freaks and can only be right wing. Dirty politics has been having ball these last 3 months (Bellis, Mallard etc) and been reaping the rewards but it wont last long. I wonder where the next hit will come from or will it be the Natzact and the dirty politic mob themselves.
