Sir Ian Taylor: What the Twitter critics get wrong about me
I had imagined that my first diary report from 151 Off the Bench would have been about some of the processes that I had gone through as part of my pre-departure preparations for the flight to LA and what, if any, changes might be able to be made to those with some of the new technologies available to us.
Those observations will have to be addressed tomorrow because there is something else that I think needs to be addressed from the outset if we are to take anything constructive from this self-isolation trial.

After shitting all over Sir Ian, Neale has been a woke cheerleader for Level 5 lockdown and described Jacindaโs pivot from eradication to containment as a ‘long and confusing surrender note’.
Neale isnโt alone on hyperbole from the Woke. The Maori Party described Labourโs policy as โmodern genocideโ and that it was designed to be a โSquid Gameโ murder Disneyland.
Those screaming Jacindaโs plan amounts to a modern genocide of Maori best be hoping there is a vast tsunami of death coming – I mean, Labourโs โgenocideโ hasnโt reached triple figures yet, that seems a very, very, very small genocide
Originally it was ACT & National who privately prayed Jacinda would fail.
The only way ACT & National win politically is if NZ loses and Covid wins.
Their dream outcome was Jacinda losing control of Delta or getting stuck and stagnating in a never ending lockdown.
With Jacinda navigating a path via mass vaccinations that respects the double vaxxed (while providing the unvaccinated free vaccinations) she now faces the wrath of the Woke who now need her to desperately fail and be punished.
For the woke, one single death by Covid of a Maori, Pacifica or disabled person is a State sanctioned genocide. Their fury at Jacinda giving a stressed out Auckland picnics has been met by the perpetually outraged woke online as an atrocity on par with Dave Chappelle hosting a Pride parade.
Those who had piously embraced every restrictive standard as if it were holy writ snarlingly turned on Jacinda once she pivoted and made their hysterical screams of genocide look like the nonsense it is.
Academics who have loved the power over social policy at the height of Covid fears feel miffed that Jacinda isnโt just taking their concerns on board, but the compliance issues and managing stressed out angry double vaxxed citizens as well.
For them she has become a traitor and so for their most feverish fantasies of genocide to come true, Jacinda must now be punished for her ‘long and confusing surrender note’.
Jacinda is getting it from all sides, the woke are just another extremist group secretly wishing she will fail so their Squid Games metaphor becomes reality.
The problem for Neale Jones and the right is that Jacinda is on track to pull off the greatest challenge of her political career by getting us back to normal with a minimum of death and sickness.
Not even Neale Jones and the entire Wellington Twitterati will be able to shit on Jacinda then.

Well said Martyn. One gets the feeling that so many nincompoops are determined that Jacinda must fail no matter how great a job she and her team have done. Much underhand work is being done ie Dirty Politics.
Personally have a problem with the glorious business leaders who have shaped NZ in their image for 30 years, making up their own MIQ!

From what I can see Xplore Technologies is about rugged tablets and based in the US. Love how anybody can sell economic opportunity that seem slim to zero to help NZ citizens (just their own pockets), as a way to get government waivers for everything.

I know of Ian Taylor. Have a relative who works for him and he is right about gathering clever people around him. I think heโs a good guy, talented at setting up his business which has given very talented kiwis innovative work to use their genius.
His company have delivered outstanding and world leading innovation. I know I sound like a or person, but actually I do know this to be the case.
Wtf what Jones thinking? If anyone can develop something like an MIQ system that works it would be Taylorโs company…
Taylor’s area of expertise is sports graphics… quite different from MIQ, health and backend IT systems.
I am astonished at your response. He is a good guy bla bla bla. World leading innovation, tell me more, tell me what the staff are paid, are they unionised and treated with respect, I mean all of them not just those high up on the food chain.

I think mostly the government are struggling how to spin opening up without being blamed by Maori for any deaths, and after investing so much in propaganda that we had to stay sealed up, and the business sacrifices to do so.

It’s a time of personal responsibility, choices, and consequences – we can’t save those who don’t want to be saved. We can’t roll back centuries of history overnight.
The disenfranchisement and disillusion of urban Maori is a Gordian knot which can’t be unraveled with the urgency the moment demands. Iwi might be better served shelving their political-corporate ambitions for the time being and indulge in some self-reflection, ask themselves why their mokopuna turn to gangs and churches for leadership and belonging, rather than the marae. Barly we don’t have to go back to centuries of history for Maori being treated badly by the crown and many racist NZers when its still happening right now. As for your ill informed comments about Maori joining gangs, gangs are a product of the state and state homes where many Maori and PI children were beaten, raped and treated inhumanely by the very people who were suppose to be protecting them. Ian Taylor should stick to his area of expertise he is not a health expert, Immunologist or Epidemiologist. While he is advocating for the business people these are the very people that are more likely to have private medical insurance, their own planes, live in gated communities and can therefore get immediate medical treatment if and when they need it.

But can you really get medical treatment through your ‘private insurance’ if you have Covid.
As we all know Aotearoa has this dumb system whereby you can make stacks of dough in the private system doing all those ectomys and straightforward stuff but if you have major issues you go to the public system. The private companies do not cater all for serious stuff.
In the UK you cannot work in both the private and public systems, should be the same here.
Private medical insurance is designed for mostly standard, cosmetic and bulk standard surgeries. As soon as things go wrong, and people need to be in ICU, private insurance normally bails, and the patient goes to the public system because that is the best for complex situations.
