Mike King has offered the Prime Minister rare praise after Gumboot Friday was handed hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding by the Government.
The mental health advocate says the charity received $600,000, allowing them to fund 4285 counselling sessions for young people in need.
The funding came through the Government’s $1.2 million Mental Wellbeing Innovation Fundannounced by Health Minister Andrew Little last Friday.
The shock drop in the last Poll put a firecracker under Labour.
They have been forced to scramble and understand why they took such a hit.
The frustration at not getting the public service to be able to do anything meaningful on housing, mental health, poverty, infrastructure and inequality has created a knee jerk of ill thought out policy by Labour designed to appease their disappointed activist base.
EV rebate, hate speech laws, criminalizing parents who stop children from taking puberty blockers and a bike bridge are all ill thought out knee jerks to calm frustrated Labour activists who aren’t seeing real progress on the big issues.
Unfortunately what appeals to woke activists alienates the middle and the hate speech fiasco represents one of the largest month to month losses in polling history.
Labour are urgently trying to cauterize these self inflicted knee jerk wounds.
As part of Labour’s reset, expect them to dump that stupid bike bridge and pour money into Mike King’s Gumboot Day promotion.
In terms of the EV rebate, it’s politically smart for Labour to appeal to 45+ female market with these rebates as that is their strongest electorate win from the 2020 election and men driving Utes don’t vote Labour, however expect some type of softening on this for Utes registered in rural postcodes before the election.
In terms of the Hate Speech and Gay Conversion Laws, expect no movement.
Insanely the Gay Conversion Law has to criminalize parents stopping puberty blockers because it will impact abortion rights if they don’t. Good luck in Select Committee with unpicking that nightmare.
In terms of the issue driving the loss of support for Labour, Jacinda is wedded to the Hate Speech legislation due to her wading deep through that grief in Christchurch, she is not for turning on this issue.
So the Gay Conversion Select Committee will be torturous and a multi month campaign reminding voters parents will become criminalized while the Hate Speech legislation will be a never ending ticking time bomb.
Pumping money into Mike King and dumping the bridge is as good as Labour’s reset will get.

A good government listens to the country. Labour have listened and learnt. I predict winning the next election is a formality as National remain in the 1980’s.
The problem with both parties is who do they listen to ? Is it the people like you and I that are trying to make a comfortable life for themselves and their families or the buracrats in Wellington who are driven by their egos that they know best.
When I talk to friends of both sides of politics there are common desires for them and others why is it so hard to at least get those thinks done . Decent homes to buy or rent nurses teachers police paid a good wage reflecting their place in society good health care for young and old the list goes not and we wait and hope .

While National is polling low, Labour would see this as the best time to push for the less centrist part of their agenda. The first year of the term was likely to be the most contentious before retreating into safer ground. The drop in the latest poll may have seen this shift start sooner than they preferred, but how well will the electorate remember this year when it heads to the voting booth in 2023?
The EV, Hate speech, criminalization of parents and woke crap hasn’t calmed the labour party membership, we hate it. It’s only calmed young labour who are all upper middle class red tories those of us who are left wing due to class are furious and I personally am not renewing my membership. Actually no. MSM has covinced the nation these are problems that need solving. Actually doing something anything signicant in these areas will show competence and good management. Soft right voters would think its not their desired solution but pragmatically reward action on critical problems. Transformational change, nothing to lose. If they dont attempt solutions and continually undersell what they have done, then toast.
Covid is ravishing both those countries (UK & Aus) a reflection of poor decision making and poor decision making is a reflection of poor leadership.

You would think the leader of a gang raking in cash from P sales could pay for that himself, rather than need a confiscated proceeds of crime refund. In about a year the MSM is going to examine this. If they are holding a straw in the wind they’ll scrap this program and divert the money to Housing.
