After castigating National yesterday for their ham fisted race baiting, Judith steals David Seymour’s cleverly pitched culture war click bait and finally has an issue that can feed the cultural resentment National need because they’ve got nothing other than fear to sell to the electorate.
White privilege is perfect culture war baiting. NZers on the whole will wearily wave co-governance through because decades of poor social stats have worn smooth any pretense that universal social services have worked for Māori. The majority attitude is ‘well you do it then’ rather than a gleeful skipping hand in hand towards a Treaty of Waitangi future designed in woke Twitter world.
National can’t turn people against Jacinda because most of the country loves Jacinda and feel genuine respect and gratitude towards her, but they’ll hate that woke activist screaming abuse in their social media feed.
Politics in the social media age isn’t about values, it’s about subjective identity politics anger amidst a cacophony of wounds all vying for hierarchy. The actual political party and what they stand for policy wise is secondary to the person you resent. It’s a process of proxification where you dump all your hate on the identifiable activist of a party rather than the actual party itself.
Jacinda is not a woke cultist, but some who are identifiably supporting her on social media are.
You end up hating her supporters, not her. It’s a Sith mind trick Fox News and the Republicans have used most successfully with Trump. ‘Democrats hate you and look down on you’ is made powerful with daily reminders on social media of how true that is.
Covid anti-vaxxers are a perfect example of this. Most of the reason people are resistant is because we’ve collectively spent 12 months screaming at them how stupid they are. These people would prefer to catch Covid than admit people they resent are right.
White privilege is woke dogma and while Jacinda will hastily claim no such this is being taught, the activist woke online will give everyone else a front row seat to the very worst elements of word crime micro aggression policing which will convince them Judith is 100% right.
Labour managed to eclipse their universal unionism by announcing a pay freeze which ignited woke disgust online which was slavishly reported on by stuff journalists. Judith poking woke dogma will have the Twitterati on its hind legs and the journalists dutifully outraged.
That will cause a thousand fights across a thousand Facebook pages all of them seething with resentment.
That’s all National have to offer. Seething resentment.

If I look at my own thoughts about JA who I voted for, I have sooooo gone off her because of the woke BS surrounding everything she does (and her continued failure on housing and poverty). Every day, I read another annoying woke comment and think, she’s causing so much division when all we want to do is get along with each other.

If the government fails to continue to protect us from covid or the vaccine roll out faulters this could turn the tide of love for thme. Another weakness could be if interest rates climb and the house prices fall or stagnate .
Interest rates are more likely than not going to rise and that’s going to wreak havoc as inflation will surely follow. If anything, it’ll be this that is the undoing of the current labour government as they’ve flooded the country with cheap credit so there are sadly far too many people who have borrowed to the gills and will be fucked.

The left doesn’t realize how much capital the hate speech and sex crime reforms will burn. Anyone who says these reforms aren’t going to turn people off the left aren’t paying attention. There is definitely the potential for a culture war in nz.

Corey you are dreaming about the National party winning the Maori seats even if there is a split in Maori votes. Many of our people have already shown how strategically they can vote especially when the chips are down.
If I were the Maori party I would be lobbying for more of our Maori people to get themselves on the Maori roll so we can get more seats.
