Daniel Prude: New York police used ‘spit hood’ on man who died of asphyxiation
An African American man died in New York state after being hooded by police and held face down to the road for two minutes, body camera footage shows.
Daniel Prude, 41, who had mental health issues and who was unarmed, was restrained in March by police who put a “spit hood” – used to stop detainees spitting or biting – on his head.
He later died of asphyxiation but his story has only now been made public.
His death was two months before the killing of George Floyd.
Another week, another video showing American Cops killing another unarmed citizen.
The most striking similarity in each example of unmasked police violence is the muscle memory that is so fluid in their confidence that they are utterly free of any consequence.
They know in their bones that any act of violence by them is legally sanctioned, this muscle memory creates a fluidity of ‘respect my authority’ action that we see time and time again in these dreadful videos.
This obscenity must end.
This isn’t a Police Force, it’s a fucking paramilitary death squad.
Our lesson in NZ is to NEVER allow the NZ Police guns.

Police Armed Response Teams dumped because they ‘created fear’, documents show
Police Armed Response Teams set up after the Christchurch mosque attacks were dumped because they “created fear” in the community, new documents have revealed.
The documents, released under the Official Information Act, show police commissioner Andy Coster wrote to district commanders shortly before abolishing the trial.
He said the teams had not achieved community support or inspired trust, as hoped.
The arrogance and unchecked power of a gun removes from the Police Officer the necessary negotiation skills that modern policing in a Democracy requires.
We can’t allow that police culture here.

Attacking the police never works in middle America which is where this election will be won and lost. 5 million mainly white, suburban housewives in 8 states in the South East, Mid West and South West will determine the presidential election. This is the dilemma for the democrats – play to this crowd and lose the enthusiasm on the far left.
Polls are already showing a move back to Trump in these battleground states. I was prepared to put a fork in Trump a couple of months ago however like Lazarus he seems to have a second wind.
Dude. I was literally the only one around here saying exactly why, how and when Trump would be installed as president. Not the least because I’m a veteran Simpsons fan.
It will be fascinating to see what happens to the democrats if he wins this time. Gut feeling is that they will implode.
It’s a grand theft Republican Party Style with the blessing of Pelosi against the working population of the world. If this miserable human being is allowed to win by Pelosi then nothing structural will change for ordinary workers globally.
