Jacinda calls on public solidarity to combat pandemic

Only 2 new cases and Jacinda is on fire.

Clear, concise, scientific and best possible practice.

She can be confident regarding the suppression of this cluster.

(The question mark of course is whether or not we are getting new community infections via the testing loopholes that have been exposed recently in the media.)

Jacinda articulating mask use and social isolation as good social conscience acts.

She is appealing to the common basic decency and solidarity for the public good during the marathon of this pandemic

This is what real leadership looks like.

Kind, compassionate, informative and confident.

We are a very lucky country for having her as our leader right now.

PS – Turns out the mainstream media screamed ‘fire’ regarding mass testing in West and South Auckland. Surely in this hyper tense real time media environment, things like this desperately needs confirming before they are broadcast.

PPS – Whoever was posting to that Instagram account is so fucked.

PPPS – She’s so good no one noticed she actually lifted the level to 2.5.

  1. Depends on your perspective – I thought the exact opposite. Looked stressed and reverting to type with pretty diagrams and pictures as well as slogans. It’s becoming clearer that from a health perspective there is no justification to move down levels (that said I’ll still argue based off the facts level 2 is where we should be) therefore the movement is a political/economic one. Fascinating no major poll has come out during the last 2 weeks – guess we’ll know at some stage.

  2. I hope you are right, but I fear that lowering the level in Auckland, despite prominent epidemiologists repeatedly warning it is too risky, will backfire on Jacinda and Labour. Imagine if 4 weeks from now (just before the election) there are clusters emerging in multiple regions of the country, with new Level 3 lockdowns in several regions. Labour’s huge and well deserved rise in the polls is because it listens to scientists and health professionals, not corporate execs, and people trust Labour to keep them safe. I’m honestly worried…why didn’t they choose to do so this time?

  3. That idiot, Jason from that waste of time rag Herald drove me to turn of question part of the program after 5 minutes of him raving on about apologies from the PM for the West Auckland testing after she answered him at least 3 times. I wanted to hear some intelligent probing questions about Level 2.5. But of course our baying MSM aren’t up to that standard. Our MSM are an utter disgrace!

  4. Yet the determination of the government to refuse considering the possibility that the initial infection came from a coolstore surface contact reveals a government more interested in putting money ahead of people.

This virus doesn’t just happen like Topsy, it must have a source, now that both border/quarantine leaks & ‘burning ember’ (where the virus is a hangover from a previous community cluster from the 1st lockdown but remains undetected as it passes between asymptomatic cases for months) are ruled out, surface contamination from imported goods is the only viable transmission mode left, yet politicians of all types refuse to countenance that possibility, most likely because of fears about economic problems from the huge slowdown in world trade that would occur until a means to prevent such contamination was developed.
So what? Until this transmission mode is contained, it will be impossible to control the virus anywhere on the planet, that’s what.
Combine that ugly reality with the recent news that some people have caught Covid 19 twice in the space of a couple of months and the world simply will not be able to control the virus or restore economic activity. Across the planet governments have been considering those as an either/or pair of alternatives but uncontrolled surface transmission obviates the two alternatives making a solution neither/nor.

  5. Yes, she is very good, and very articulate. It’s very impressive to see how well across all the detail she is, in answering questions from media people. But could she stop infantilising us with this “team of 5 m” term?

  6. What hasn’t happened but should have is that the 500 odd ‘my rights are more important than yours’ mob that displayed their sense of exceptionalism in Auckland yesterday have not had to formally notify of their presence for Covid-19 tracking in the expectation that one or more was infected.

  7. What is really going on with Ministry of Health comms? Telling all West and South Auckland to get tested? Nice working class zones. They are either idiots or trying very hard to make the government look incompetent. But this was too obvious to be a mistake.

Is it a coincidence that we’ve already had internal leaks to National during Mullers short reign?

Can’t help but think such a wide of the mark stuff up like the one today, so wrong on every level and never once intimated by any minister, was deliberate.

Kind of goes hand in hand with the expectations ministers had of border staff testing that was never delivered. Someone wants us to fail.

They need a good look at the MOH and quick.

  8. The West and South Auckland thing? I saw a headline and thought “Shit something terrible has happened the world is going to end.”

Apparently it’s not. Good try to make its look like that though.

    • Jacinda looked and sounded like a real leader today I thought she was awesome and very impressive indeed.

      • LEVELS 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, AND……….. 4.5?

I was led to believe it was levels 1 to 4.

CO’MON, … WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?… spreading confusion or just plain old hedging ones bets?

  9. Kinda says that she’s not loved by the health sector in some parts. I wonder why? Could it be a bit of the ole institutional racism rearing its head again.

  10. Labour should call on the farmer to feed us and earn our foreign exchange while there’s an assault on us by a virus.
That’d take the farmer away from the natzo’s and we’d see less natzo hoardings in farmer paddocks dumbasses.

  11. The Facebook post disseminated by the Ministry of Health was perceived as a mandatory public directive rather than as informal suggestion or even formal advisory, disgraceful really considering the supposed medical seriousness and public emotion. This whole social intervention has been a debacle which seems to be equal parts ad hoc and ad lib. How can the public be confident in any subsequent communications in future, or Ministry processes in general? For example when do the public get to see the scientific evidence used to implement these incredible constitutional changes; Who has been involved in these wide ranging orders; Are the medical records and samples collected for this pandemic secure; Are medical results given to every patient who has had a Covid test including a test profile and methods used; Will patient genetic material be destroyed once analysed?

    • Also will the genomic, tracing and personal meta data be deleted properly and permanently, and who exactly has had access to this information?

    • I see the government has just inserted more changes to our laws without mandate by inserting Level 2.5 into the Covid emergency response. Really, are we just going to add more and more decimal fractions to describe our shrinking civil liberties, possibly ending up with Level 1.00001 which translates to ‘Everything is safe dear citizen but the virus could be lurking in the shadows around that corner so wear your hazmat suit and gas mask, provide a blood test daily and wear your GPS ankle bracelet at all times’?

      • Virus has a calendar so it knows when to change levels, it also wears a watch to time the level switchovers, it also carries a tape measure for social distancing because it knows how to jump. Amazing really. So sad, too bad, if only…..
