The intellectual rebirth of NZ First?

While many pundits mocked Winston falling asleep after a jet lagged emergency flight to Turkey, it turns out Winston succeeded…

Winston Peters’ international Islamic damage control campaign success

…so despite the criticism, Winston wins again, but the sudden questioning of NZ First in the wake of this atrocity is worth looking at.

NZ First will not be able to blow any of their dog whistles any longer and will be reliant on Shane Jones winning Northland to remain in Parliament as they currently tread water sub 5%.

They are also at an inflexion point philosophically, what does NZ First stand for post Winston?

If NZ First can re-identify their stance against neoliberalism and reinvent it into being politically relevant again they could be a new force unleashed. National, Labour & the Greens are effetely free market parties, NZ First’s regional growth fund is effectively direct Keynesianism.

Stop hating on the migrants and start hating on the economic hegemonic structure that has robbed NZ of its egalitarianism. NZ First need to parachute in a couple of super star candidates. There are two who could be enormous boons for the Party and speak of a new direction as Winston moves into Statesman status.

Jon Johansson is NZ First’s Chief of Staff, and I consider him one of the smartest political minds around, if he can see the potential in a  new economic counter to Labour, Greens and National, he could rebirth the party intellectually and philosophically.

  1. Yes Martyn.

National condemned the provincial fund from the start remember?

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12200822

National was out to kill the provinces as HB/Gisborne has evidence that National deliberately took funding for roads and rail out of their maintenance funding and sent it all to Auckland.

Rail was damaged because the rail line drains were broken or blocked when they laid off 12 rail maintenance staff, and now 7 yrs later we still have no rail from Napier to Gisborne. NZ First and labour and greens vow to restore the rail service.

We desperately need rail back as industries are wanting rail freight service again as roads are now clogged with trucks killing the roads.

    http://gisborneherald.co.nz/localnews/2437884-135/labour-greens-united-on-rail

The roads all were left to collapse with low funding and many roads are either potholed or not maintained as they were before 2008 before national was in power.

All our rural roads have no maintenance at all and are becoming very dangerous to drive on now.

  2. “National, Labour & the Greens are effetely free market parties, NZ First’s regional growth fund is effectively direct Keynesianism.”

Their only hope. And a sound tactical move if they do it. I think they’ win more support than their current anti-immigration policies get them

Fuck it I’d probably switch my vote to NZF as well

  3. There are better people in NZF than Winston & Shane Jones.

The Election of Shane Jones as Leader would possibly spell the end of NZF IMHO.

New Zealander’s are looking for politican’s who are grounded and actually do something rather than talking about it ?

  4. I wonder how much more of the Shane Jones election fund sorry I mean the developement fund go to Northland

  5. “Stop hating on the migrants and start hating on the economic hegemonic structure that has robbed NZ of its egalitarianism.”

Evidently, Martyn, you’ve forgotten the role immigration plays in the economic structure that has robbed NZ of its egalitarianism.

    • Being egalitarian gives you a larger pool of people to pull from, especially if, for example, your culture has communal child raising or large tribal structures. If your enemy does not follow these same practices and limits himself to male soldiers, he will likely lose.

    • It is KIWIS who facilitated this, the mostly white middle class, who own property and have two or more cars per household, and who want to be able to shop and to be served cheaply, which is done by paying people who deliver this low wages.

As few Kiwis are willing to work for a pittance, they are happy to have immigrants fill the gaps. Look at your homes for the elderly, how many born and bred Kiwis work there? There are many from the Philippines and some other countries who fill that gap.

The government also benefits from this, having many immigrants ‘fill gaps’ in the health system, where about half of the work force is of a migrant background.

Horticulture needs cheap fruit pickers, winegrowers need cheap grape pickers, and farmers want cheap farm workers, manufacturers also tend to pay low wages, so immigrants ‘fill the gap’.

And it is Kiwis who want this, as their fellow Kiwis cannot be bothered working in low wage and slave condition jobs.

      • “And it is Kiwis who want this, as their fellow Kiwis cannot be bothered working in low wage and slave condition jobs.”

Immigration helps “Kiwis who want this” sustain low wages and poor work conditions.

Moreover, most require accommodating in a nation that has a housing shortage, resulting in driving up demand, thus housing costs. Hence, the calls and public support to slow immigration.

  6. Unaffordable housing here in NZ, because of unsustainable immigration and a lack of investment in Infrastructure by Central & Regional Governments ?

  7. Unsustainable Immigration is damaging the social fabric of New Zealand, especially the high levels of Asians and Indians who do not integrate into the New Zealand Local Communities ?
