This citizen will be filling out his Census form online
Well, well, well – what do we have here…
Election 2020 at risk of being compromised due to census delays
The next general election is at risk of being compromised due to Census 2018 delays. The Electoral Commission has confirmed its necessary redraw of electoral boundaries for Election 2020 could be jeopardised by the delayed data.
Commission officials fronted a parliamentary select committee on Thursday, where National MP Nick Smith questioned the latest point the data could be received to ensure a robust election.
“The part that makes me nervous, is that we’ve now seen the two announcements from [Stats NZ] of delays.”
…just as TDB predicted, the online Census was a total failure…
The 2018 Census had the lowest response in more than 50 years – now a team is looking for answers.
Statistics NZ had urged Kiwis to complete their census online in 2018, however one in ten people didn’t respond, a drop of five per cent from the last census that concerned Statistics Minister James Shaw.
…let’s remember this was a cost cutting measure to try and make it cheaper, but without a person coming to your door and actually identifying you and prompting you to fill the form in, a lot of NZers didn’t bother.
Watching National who green lit this online Census stupidity try and blame Labour is as intellectually bankrupt as National blaming Labour for the current housing crisis.
Only a fool would fill out a census online in the post-Snowden world where everything can be hacked. The less the Government knows about you, the better.
In a post Snowden world, why on earth would you trust any online information collection of personal data? We know that all Social Services are connected to each other now, it’s the reason a beneficiary who has had a run in with WINZ won’t go to Housing NZ because while Housing NZ will say, ‘we can’t help you, but by the way, you owe WINZ this’.
This new interconnectivity is the main reason why the poor and needy do everything in their power to hide from social service agencies. Census assures us their information isn’t shared, but with the need to identify yourself with name and number, I believe their assurances are hollow, especially when the GCSB. SIS and Police intelligence can still access this information, not to mention the NSA and the other 5 eye mass surveillance powers.
Let’s also not ignore the digital divide that means the poor have no ability to participate online.
So the drive to make this cheaper means there is no personal contact point to pressure compliance, it opens the data up to being used by more powerful state agents, allows the information to be hacked and leaves the poor out.
The greatest joke is how only a few months ago Stats NZ were continuing to claim this was a great triumph…
When Stuff asked Stats NZ in July what went wrong, it did not answer the question but instead said: “We’re pleased with the online response and performance of the online system for 2018 census. Eighty two per cent of responses received were online which surpasses our target of 70 per cent.”
…when these Wellington bureaucrats try and force online voting, it will be a similar failure.
Poor people without access to the internet, crap planning and shoddy follow through mixed with a contempt for giving the Government information that can be hacked all contributed to this fiasco.
Wellington bureaucrats will get away with the incompetence and no lessons will be learned.
So how do Stats NZ intend to recover from this self inflicted fuck up? Why the good old Compulsory Survey…
Take this survey, or else – Stats NZ threatens busy woman with prosecution
A Statistics New Zealand employee appears to have threatened a Hamilton woman with prosecution for not filling out a survey. The woman’s partner, who asked to remain anonymous, posted a photo of the threat on Facebook.
“This is a compulsory govt survey. I am the local area leader for Stats NZ and we will pursue prosecution if you fail to comply,” the note reads.
“We are somewhat dismayed at you refusing to talk to [us].”
The threat was scrawled on a note bearing an official Statistics NZ letterhead. The pre-printed message reads: “You have been selected to participate in a Statistics New Zealand survey. Sorry I missed you when I called today.”
..that’s right, Stats NZ will threaten randomly selected families to fill out their compulsory survey or else risk prosecution so they can fill in the enormous gaps left by their online abortion.
This entire fiasco could have been prevented if only they had stuck to the system NZers trusted.

Just another national mess left to be fixed up by others so much for being competent.
And these people still have their jobs something is wrong here and where is the accountability more of nationals incompetence. Oh that is right they did not want to collect any information or data cause it would show their short comings. Best not to know.
The jonkey Nactional Party census was meant to be a BIG FAIL to hide their crimes against New Zealanders’ rights to their own country
… eg who owns what housing and whether houses owned by overseas owners in NZ are empty?
….eg what New Zealanders are now desperately poor?
….eg what New Zealanders are now homeless?
…eg what is the ethnic mix now in NZ?…and what areas is it concentrated in ( rich /poor /mix of area?)…how many are very new immigrants under Nactional?
eg…have we lost control of our own country?
This FARCE was absolutely nothing like the Census Days of the past …where even holiday makers away from home were expected to answer it
…in this so -called census even the very computer literate could not be bothered answering it on-line
( For a REAL NZ Census you need well organised visits of every household in the country, skilled personal delivery of census forms and help to answer questions and then a personal follow up visit )
Information is like wool to them. They just clip it off whenever they decide they want it. It’s not uncompensated data theft. There’s no such thing as a right of refusal when you’re a flippin bleating Merino. They’ll bundle it up and sell it to someone. They’ll organize your paddocks, give you a drenching, pinch your lambs. The’ll pop them in a meat pack
Poor people (except maybe the elderly) generally still have mobile phones, which means they also have access to the internet (even the most basic mobiles have built-in web browsers). I’m fairly sure you can also go to the local public library and use the internet for free. I doubt very many didn’t fill in the census because of hacking fears, given that the vast majority feel they have “nothing to hide”; you’d be surprised how many people have never even heard of Snowden.
So the imo real reason for the low turn-out? Pure apathy. Just simple “couldn’t be bothered”/”have better things to do”/”what’s on Netflix?” and of course checking Instagram/Facebook/Twitter for the 50th time Census Day means they just didn’t get round to it.
But the lack of apathy of the general public is not the real issue is it Nitrium its the fact that the national party didn’t really want to collect good credible data and information about NZers because it would show the true picture and how their bad ill thought out shonkey shall be right policies and how they were actually detrimental to our country and our people.
