Simon Bridges’ claim the government is compensating “meth crooks” is vile and despicable.
His comments continue the cruel, abusive derision directed against so many State tenants and beneficiaries under the National government.Bridges knows the meth testing was bogus. He knows people were thrown out of their homes when there was no evidence when the contamination occurred or who had caused it.
Bridges and his National colleagues gloated as Paula Bennett put the boot in again and again against beneficiaries and state house tenants on the meth issue.
We are inviting New Zealanders to condemn Bridges rather than condemn state house tenants caught up in National’s cruel campaign.
Bridges should be calling for an independent inquiry into the meth-testing industry which drove the hysteria about meth contamination.
Bridges colleague Mike Sabin, former policeman and former National MP, was at the heart of the moral panic over meth.
Before he entered Parliament as an MP in 2011, Sabin was a policeman and founded an anti-methamphetamine company called MethCon.
It was an appropriate name for the company and the campaign Sabin ran in the National Party to drum up hysteria around methamphetamine.
As a result of Sabin’s campaign and National’s joy in attacking state house tenants and beneficiaries Housing New Zealand wasted over $120 million on meth testing and remediation of contaminated homes.

looks like we were conned by the gnats cons whose policy seems to have benefitted meth con when really it was one big fat con by a bunch of crooks and liars that presided over our country for 3 terms
I am always hoping that in my lifetime they will have to face the lies they made so very often in a public way.
Great to see in a new poll in Britain that the majority of people want Blair to be tried for war crimes – bring it on.
Not as bad as the rort of this inept and chaotic, not to mention, unelected govt!!
Lara, ‘rort’ doesn’t go with ‘inept and chaotic’.
lara do you not understand MMP
heads should roll on this one, and pike mine and mental health and Saudi sheep farms and intensive farming and dotcom raid and… and… and…
Good to see our MSM holding our politicians to account and our justice system following through…hmmmm.
Well said John Minto.
Methcon was a con alright which Sabin used to promote himself as the expert on meth, which he wasn’t but unfortunately in this country many ex-police promote themselves as experts on matters they are not experts on or they get a job at HNZ where they continue to practice their self-righteous moralistic but contemptuous views and predetermine outcomes based on those views, all with a sneer of contempt at those they make their rash ill-conceived and unjustified decisions about. Look what happened to the 2400 evicted HNZ tenants and what was behind their totally unjustified and unlawful evictions – unlawful because they were not given the right to respond. HNZ didn’t care because in their view, these people do not have rights. The ex-police who are in HNZ would be pushing this view.
Do these ex-police so called experts care? NO. Why not? Because they still believe they are saving the world and even if they are told they are wrong in what they do – they still believe they are saving the world!!!
The last time that I heard Mike Sabin’s name mentioned in public, he was being subjected to a police investigation for his alleged involvement in some violent social activity. I have never heard of any outcome to this investigation but since he sees to be abroad in our community again I presume he has been exonerated.
I have never heard a word about this in the MSM. Can some one please enlighten me?
Yeah sabins violent activity was kept quiet why was this ?
The Media was not allowed to report on it. Both this blog and The Standard obeyed the Court instruction not to report it but there are a few cowboy blogs out there that have spread the word.
That is surely corrupt. As far as I know the importance of the allegations against Sabin was that information about impending charges were not made available to the public until after the 2014 elections but Key knew about it before the election. This would possibly have affected the outcome and invalidated the election process. It is also a criminal act, isn’t it? How could Key get away with that?
…why were alot of things keep quiet or swept under the carpet while National was in power?
MSM? Anyone?
So many questions…with no answers…
