Could the current members of the Intelligence and Security Committee, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Opposition leader Bill English, NZ First leader Winston Peters, Greens co-leader James Shaw, the Minister Responsible for the SIS and GCSB Andrew Little, and National MPs Amy Adams and Chris Finlayson please explain to the good people of NZ why the fuck a private corporation with deep links to human rights abusers is helping the NZ Police commit mass surveillance?
The NZ Police have signed a non-discloser agreement with The Hacking Team which allows them to hide behind any questions that the NZ Police are working with one of the worst corporate civil liberty abusers on the planet.
The Hacking Team is a private company that help’s the Police forces of authoritarian regimes crack down on human rights activists…

The latest hate crime against our privacy that is being exposed is a corporate entity called Hacking Team that help Police use existing communications systems to hack in and spy on those the Police are hunting down. This is supposed to be for drug dealers and child rapists blah blah, but in reality of course it’s being used against activists and anyone deemed a political threat against the state.
Each client gets their own server to use internally for each country. Australia has 4 servers to spy on, but here’s the spooky thing, NZ has 7 servers for these corporate hackers.
Why the hell do we have almost twice as many spy servers as Australia does? How many people are the NZ Police spying on and for what purpose?
…now progressive politics has a majority on the Intelligence and Security Committee, can we have 5 answers to the 5 most pressing questions?
1. Why does Hacking Team have 7 servers in NZ?
2. What work are they doing for NZ government departments in the wake of the mass surveillance law change?
3. How ethical is it to use a corporate hacking team that works with repressive regimes?
4. If they are employed by NZ government departments, what oversight is there on them and who are they answerable to?
5. What if any information they obtain is available to anyone else?
This is why Golriz Ghahraman was so righteous in protesting against the spy base at Waihopai, this is why the Greens need to be on the Intelligence and Security Committee and why David Farrar was so vacuous when he attacked Golriz.
The NZ Police are secretly working with a corporate human rights abuser who uses mass surveillance for nefarious means. Why are we allowing this to stand?
Makes you wonder who is controlling the country ?
The USA Corporates or the New Zealand Government ?
So you expect that Jacinda and Andrew and James will stop such stuff going on? Do you really think that they will resist and stand up against the powers that operate behind the curtains and in dark rooms?
A change of government in a country like this does not mean as much as some enthused commenters here may think. It may mean damned nothing much at all, as this kind of stuff is happening with the blessing and more of the real big guys in places like Washington, Moscow, London, Beijing, Paris, Berlin and what else we have as true centres of power, where also the leading spy agencies have their bases.
They work with whoever they see fit, no matter their ‘human rights record’.

You sound surprised, with revelations that Labour don’t oppose TPPA finally dawning and NZF so obviously neutered it is becoming apparent we lost democracy in NZ quite a few years ago.
